Your Turn To Grade

Earlier I made grades for each team. Now it's your turn to grade the season. I've given you 3 areas to comment on. You can grade your level of fun on the fields playing kickball, your level of fun at the sponsor bar, MacDintons, and your fun reading the blog.

How would you grade playing kickball?

How would you grade the fun at MacDintons?

How would you grade the blog?

Theme for Week 6

The theme for week 6 is Urban Ninja. What does that mean? Well I didn't know myself so I had Erik give me a definition:

"The definition of Urban Ninja. Dress up to blend in with you environment whether it be a set of bleachers, a cone, trash can, grass, whatever."

I am sure we will see Vicious and Delicious and I Already Hit That out there dressed as whatever.

For week 5, how could we not give it to I Already Hit That for their sports attire theme. I mean really they had a guy dressed in a wrestling singlet. They guys gotta get something for that, and it's not dignity.

Crystal Pitcher

So you all know now that the regular season champions and the Tournament champion get trophies (and an invitation to play in Vegas along with the 2nd place tournament team for the 2010 Founders Cup). What some of you new players may not know is that there is another award to be had. Its probably the most prestigious award of all, the Crystal Pitcher.

The Crystal Pitcher is awarded each season to the team that is the most fun, shows the best sporstmanship and the most team spirit. In the past 2 seasons I Already Hit That has claimed the prize. Do they have what it takes to pull off the trifecta or is it time for some new blood?

The Crystal Pitcher is voted on by the players and the ballot takes place at the End of Season Tournament on November 7th. If you haven't done so already, start taking a look around and taking note of who the fun teams are to determine who is the most deserving of this season's Crystal Pitcher Award.

Which would your rather have your team win?

Midseason Report Card

Now that the first half of the season is over with, we can take a look at where each team is and give them grades. I will evaluate the team's overall grade as well as in 3 categories, offense, defense and fun. Of course fun is the most important. Some say that kickball is a sport that is played at the highest level in the 5th grade so all that competitive stuff doesn't mean much. We are a social organization so this should be fun right? That other stuff is really meaningless. So lets go in alphabetical order, shall we?

Anything But Blue Balls
Overall: B
Offense: C
Defense: B
Fun: B+

After half the season Anything But Blue Balls is right in the middle of the division for Runs Against and Runs For. ABBB may be the most inconsistent team in Breaker. They can come out and shut down the other team or get demolished. Win or lose, this is probably the most relaxed group out there and they are fun to hang out with.

Ball Kickers
Overall: Incomplete
Offense: F
Defense: F
Fun: Incomplete

On average they give up more than 6 runs per game and score... well they have only scored 1 run total so far this season. That's obviously a recipe for disaster so you would hope that they are at least fun, right? Well we just don't know. They seem like they would be a fun bunch and gave plenty of material to Shaina for her interview with them this past week but has anyone seen a pink t-shirt at MacDinton's this season? Seems like they are pretty MIA at the sponsor bar.

Bull Gators
Overall: B
Offense: C
Defense: A
Fun: B-

Bull Gators are in the top 5 teams in the division for defense and haven't given up more than 3 runs in any game this season. If they were half as good on offense they could be on the top of the table. They had one good offensive explosion when they scored 8 runs but other than that scoring has been relatively scarce. On the fun scale they seem like a cool enough bunch, even if I don't really know anyone on the team.

Don't Touch Our Balls
Overall: A
Offense: A
Defense: A+
Fun: B+

On average, Don't Touch Our Balls gives up less than a run per game. In fact they have only allowed opponents to score in 2 of their 5 games so far. Couple that with an offense that scores 5 runs per game on average, you've got a winning combination for sure. They can always be seen at MacDinton's and their unofficial spokeswoman, Scarlet, has a propensity for making some ridiculous quotes.

I Already Hit That
Overall: B
Offense: D
Defense: B-
Fun: A+

Second worse offense in the division but their defense isn't half bad. All of that is irrelevant though because this team is all about having fun. Winners of the Crystal Pitcher Award over the last 2 seasons, they love to dress up for theme games, sing karaoke and socialize at MacDintons. There is nothing better than that.

Kick In A Box
Overall: B
Offense: C+
Defense: C-
Fun: B+

Kick In A Box is a team that is a lot better than what their record shows. They haven't really done anything exceptional on the kickball field yet, unless you count beating Raging Balls exceptional but most people wouldn't. This team is mostly made up of my old teammates so I've to to love them. They always make a respectable showing at MacDintons.

New Kicks On The Block
Overall: B
Offense: B-
Defense: A-
Fun: C

If it wasn't for just a couple of mistakes here or there, the Evil Empire could be the best team in the division. They have a strong defense and their offense is solid. I had to give them a C on fun because even though they are actually fun, they are definitely gaining a reputation as the Evil Empire. It could have to do with their black t-shirts, or it could have something to do with my blog posts. Either way you can't give the Evil Empire anything higher than a C for fun.

Quit Yer Pitchin
Overall: A
Offense: A+
Defense: B
Fun: B

Quit Yer Pitchin has the best offense in the division and can pretty much score at will. Believe me, I know, they scored 7 runs in the first inning against my team this week. They are one of the teams that are just waiting for the Seminoles and Don't Touch Our Balls to falter so they have a chance at rising in the standings. They are a fun team and routinely have a good showing at MacDintons but sometimes they can get a little heated on the field.

Raging Balls
Overall: A++
Offense: C-
Defense: F-
Fun: A+++

Raging Balls is my team and we haven't won on the kickball field yet. Statistically speaking we have the worst defense in the division but at least we aren't last in offense. We do have a lot of fun and we kick ass at flip cup and always have a strong showing at MacDintons.

Seminoles
Overall: A
Offense: A
Defense: A+
Fun: B

The Seminoles are in a heated tie for first place and there is good reason for that. They are tied with the divisions best defense and are only second in overall offense. They also know the rules better than any other team, evidenced by their leather bound laminated rule book. Veterans may know the Seminoles from past seasons as the villians of the division but they are a new Seminole team and you can't argue with the fact that they have plenty of team spirit.

Suck My Kick
Overall:B+
Offense:A-
Defense: B
Fun: B

Suck My Kick is sitting on the second echelon of the division. They started off the season as the epitome of average but have since improved their play and now have a potent combination of offense and defense. Does anyone have anything bad to say about this team's demeanor? No, they are just a chill bunch.

Tech USA - Where My Pitches At
Overall: B+
Offense: C
Defense: A
Fun: B-

A new team to the division, Tech USA - Where My Pitches At has already discovered how to play excellent defense. It is only a matter of time before they start figuring out how to put more points on the board. We could probably stand to see more of them at MacDintons.

The Balled and the Beautiful
Overall: B-
Offense: C-
Defense: C
Fun: B

This team just won their first game of the season this past week. By looking at the season stats, its amazing that they hadn't won before. They aren't going to overpower their opponent but they are just good enough to pull of a few wins in the season.

Vicious and Delicious
Overall: A
Offense: B
Defense: A+
Fun: A

Vicious and Delicious is tied with the best defense in the division, led by some incredibly skilled female players. If they could get a little bit more of a spark on offense they would really be rolling. In fact they have only one blemish to their record so far, a 2-0 loss to New Kicks On The Block. If nothing else, Vicious and Delicious loves to get dressed up for theme games for some fun times.

We've Got The Runs
Overall: B
Offense: C-
Defense: D
Fun: A

They are maybe best known for their obligatory 1 run each week (even though they scored 2 this week) but at least they score. They may not be the best kickball team but they certainly do have fun and I have been told that the chicken nuggets that they make are legendary.

Your Mom Makes a Dry Roast
Overall: B
Offense: C
Defense: B
Fun: A-

They are decent enough on offense and decent enough on defense. None of that matters though. Their team name is Your Mom Makes a Dry Roast and that's pretty cool. That automatically gives them extra fun points.

Week 5 Player Profile - Ball Kickers!

This week’s Player Profile introduces us to Nick from the Ball Kickers, or as the rest of the league refers to them: That Pink Team. How did Nick feel when he found out what the team’s color would be?

“Distraught.”

That sentiment surely applies to their season thus far, as the Ball Kickers are… 0 and 3? 0 and 4? When a debate surfaced regarding their record, another Ball Kicker chimed in, “Whatever game this is, we’re 0 and that.”

This is Nick’s first season playing WAKA (not that the record reflects that). He saw some folks at MacDinton’s on Thursday nights and thought it sounded interesting. Deciding that the Thursday night league was lame (I’m editorializing here), Nick and his friends joined the awesome Breaker division. The majority of the Ball Kickers work with Nick at a mortgage contracting service company “kicking people out of their homes.” Does Nick find it at all ironic that he evicts people from their homes professionally, but is unable to get anyone out at home on the kickball field? Yes, yes he does. And Nick hates irony.

Nick would like everyone to know his astrological sign is Taurus. Nick’s teammate Frank would like everyone to know Nick’s a Cancer… to the team. (Why am I here? This thing writes itself.)

Nick touted the Pink Team’s flip cup skills, but we have yet to see them show up en masse at MacDinton’s tables. Ball Kickers – the gauntlet has been thrown. See you next week!

Week 5 Recap

We are now officially half way through the season. For some of you, that might be exciting, for others it could be bringing sadness. Either way, it should be bringing you kickball. So lets get to the action for the week.

Quit Yer Pitchin and Raging Balls faced off in our early game on field A. The good news is that Raging Balls didn't have any apparent math errors, though regular errors, there were plenty of. Quit Yer Pitchin quickly threw up a seven spot in the top of the first inning. That's when things got ugly. The rest of the night was filled with molestation and sexual harassment. What?! Really! Ok so maybe not really but maybe. The alluring Megan of Raging Balls was minding her business just looking pretty as she has been known to do. Just then a player from Quit Yer Pitchin started rubbing up against her and rubbing her back and whispered in her ear, "Hey baby, you know, it's not whether you win or lose, its what you do back at my place after the game that counts". Megan turned around and kneed him in the groin and slapped him with a lawsuit. True story. No, really. Ok so maybe not really but maybe. Quit Yer Pitchin molested Raging Balls 9-1. Oh yeah, and Shaina wants everyone to know that she was safe at third.

The Bull Gators came into this season with a lot of promise but have not been as strong as they originally hoped. They are looking to regain some ground in the standings in the second week and they started on a good foot tonight by playing some stellar defense. They played like the Tampa Bay Bucaneers defense out there. No the old one. No not the really old one, like just a few years ago. Definitely not like the current one. The Bull Gators flexed their defensive muscle to a 2-0 win.

We've Got The Runs started off their game against Kick In A Box on the right foot. The first pitch of the game ended up being a home run. Its not because it was kicked deep though. Kick In A Box kept throwing the ball around and man in blue kept running. Now usually, We've Got The Runs stops at scoring just one run but they were somehow able to break tradition and score... wait for it... wait for it... a second run! Knowing that the game was close and they had to rely on their defense to shut Kick In A Box down in the 5th inning, WGTR played I WANNA ROCK on the PA system and brought in Billy Boswell, their closing pitcher, to seal the game. We've Got The Runs scored two but they only needed their customary one as they won 2-0.

Suck My Kick and New Kicks On The Block are two teams that are just waiting for one of the top teams to fall so they can have a chance to rise to the top echelon in the standings. Sleeves had a great game and Britton ran the show and led her team to victory. Suck My Kick topped New Kicks On The Block 4-1. Guys, rumor has it that Britton is married but could be single for the right guy. Or something like that. I don't really think I got the full story.

The result of the Seminoles and Your Mom Makes a Dry Roast game was settled pretty early. In fact it was settled before the first kick as Your Mom Makes a Dry Roast had only 2 girls show up so they had to take a forfeit. The two teams played for fun anyways but no one kept score. Ty reffed the game and Ty knows the rules so he was making calls that neither team had ever heard of (they are all in the rulebook, guys).
For instance, did you know that if you kick the ball in front of home plate or behind the rear cones, the ball is automatically foul but if you kicked the ball in the air and the defense catches it you are still out. Also, did you know that in a tag up situation, the baserunner can run as soon as the ball first touches a fielder and does not have to wait until the ball is caught if the ball is hit in the air or bobbled. The fun game was also ended on a good ref call by Courtney who called a baserunner out for leaving 2nd base before the ball was kicked.
Because Your Mom Makes a Dry Roast had to forfeit they lose -.75 points in the standings and results in an automatic 5-0 win for the Seminoles.

Don't Touch Our Balls needed a strong defensive performance against I Already Hit That after the Seminoles had their automatic 5-0 win if they wanted to stay at the top of the standings, since Runs against is the tie breaker in the standings after points, total wins, and head to head matchup. They got just that as their game was nothing out of the ordinary for them and they won 4-0.

Vicious and Delicious and BallKickers faced off in one of the worst color matchups of the week. Ballkickers took the field in the top of the 5th with a 1-0 lead. That's right folks. Ballkickers scored their first run of the season and were hoping to hold out for their first win. With 2 outs and runners on first and second Katy from Vicious and Delicious ripped a 2 run double to take the lead. They scored a couple of extra insurance runs and shut the Ballkickers down in the bottom of the inning. Vicious and Delicious stays tied for 3rd in the standings with a 4-1 win. By giving up only 4 runs to Raging Balls' 9, congratulations are in order for Ballkickers who were able to advance in the standings (sort of) despite their loss. Raging Balls and Ballkickers now share the worst runs against stat in the division.

The Balled and the Beautiful and Anything But Blue Balls has the late game on field D. That's about all I can tell you since no one gave me any details of what happened in the game. The Balled and the Beautiful won their first game of the season by winning 1-0. Now just close your eyes, feel the blood flowing through your veins, find your happy place, and imagine your own details for this game. Shame on The Balled and The Beautiful and Anything But Blue Balls for not giving me anything to write about.

What is Raging Balls best chance of not ending up in last place?

New Contributor

Starting this week, we will have a new person blogging, so it won't just be all me all the time. I know many of you are probably dissapointed since you love my posts so much but trust me, this is a good thing. So who is this new mystery writer? Its Shaina.

Last season Shaina was on the BA-52s. If you aren't familiar with them? They are now defunct. They were thought to possibly be the worst kickball team of all time. That was until they played my old team, and won. So in the off season Shaina said she was looking to upgrade her team and inexplicably joined my team.

I've been trying to get her to start writing for the blog for some time now but salary negotiations where holding things up. I offered her nothing and she said she wouldn't work for anything less than triple that. I offered double my original offer and she agreed and now that I am introducing her to all the blog readers, she's now obligated to actually write something. In fact, this week she's going to do a profile of a team. Aren't you excited now?

Random Video of the week

Since this Tuesday the theme will be sports apparel, I was reminded of this old video. The guy in this video actually played in the Breaker division a couple of years ago. In fact he was on my team. Before you ask, no he's not a real Red Sox fan, he's a Rays fan. In fact he worked for the Rays. Yes I did let him know that his Boston accent sucks. That sounds nothing like a Boston accent, I should know since I grew up there. It sounds more like how some sort of combined Boston and New Jersey accent would sound, if you were deaf.

Obviously, this video was a parody of the "My New Haircut" video. If you haven't seen that before, look it up on youtube. There are a million direct parodies of it out there but it's also inspired some other classic anti-douchebag videos. Of course here in the Breaker division we are opposed to douchebaggery of all kinds so in honor of that spirit, I've made this week's random video a 3fer. The below videos may not be suitable for work.

Week 5 Predictions

Raging Balls vs Quit Yer Pitchin on field A
This game pits one of the leagues best against one of the leagues worst. Raging balls has yet to win yet this season but they have been quickly improving each week. Their last 3 games have been nail biters that could easily have gone either way. Quit Yer Pitchin plays an aggressive style of kickball and are willing to do just about anything for that victory. They will do the same this week. Prediction: Quit Yer Pitching 4-2 (I know I know, you are all saying, "hey don't you play on Raging Balls? How can you pick the other team". Well its easy. The last 2 seasons, whenever I picked QYP to win, they lost. Strategy my friends, strategy.)

Tech USA - Where My Pitches At vs Bull Gators on field B
We've got orange vs burnt orange. How exciting! With the exception of last week's game for the Bull Gators, both teams tend to have some pretty close matchups. I would expect that this game would be the same. All of the scoring in this game will come early then the defense will take over. Predictions: Bull Gators on top 2-1

We've Got The Runs vs Kick In A Box on field C
Even though these 2 teams are towards the bottom of the table, I would expect this game to be one of the most entertaining for the week. We've Got the Runs will score their obligatory 1 run in the second inning. Kick in a Box will counter by scoring 3 in the 3rd. In the 5th inning We've Got the Runs will load the bases with 2 outs, Anne will be on third base. The following kick will be an easy base hit but on her way home, Anne is reminded that her team has already scored their one run for the game. Not wanting to mess with tradition, she stops just 2 feet from home plate, allowing Kick In A Box to tag her out to end the game. Prediction: Kick In a Box wins 3-1.

Suck My Kick vs New Kicks On The Block on Field D
These teams have an identical record of 3-1 and are hungry for a chance to climb to the top of the table. They are probably the most evenly matched teams to play each other this week. Hopefully the refs won't be too drunk during this game because they might have a bit of trouble differentiating the black t-shirts from the forest green ones. Prediction: New Kicks On the Block pulls it off and wins 5-3

Seminoles vs Your Mom Makes a Dry Roast on field A
The Seminoles are pretty pissed right now after a particular college football game that was played this weekend. They will want to avenge the Seminole name and will probably look to argue any call that goes the wrong way. Unfortunately for the Seminoles, Ty (that's me) will be reffing this game. Last time Ty reffed a game, he ejected a player from the field during last season's playoffs and might be looking to do the same during this game. Predicition: Seminoles 7 players ejected; Your Mom Makes a Dry Roast 1 player ejected

Don't Touch Our Balls vs I Already Hit That on field B
Don't Touch Our Balls are feeling good right now. After tying their first game, they are now back on top of the table and feeling reinvigorated after a consuming massive amount of Ukrainian Irish vodka shots last week. I Already Hit That will show up in full sports apparel and will spend most of the night tripping over their catcher shin guards and hockey pads and have a hard time seeing out of the football helmets. At least they will have fun. Prediction: Don't Touch Our Balls will win 112 to 2

Vicious and Delicious vs Ball Kickers on Field C
Vicious and Delicious definitely have the best defense in the division right now. They have given up only 3 runs all season. That is bad news for Ball Kickers who have yet to score their first run of the season. Vicious and Delicious's offense hasn't been very explosive either this season but their defense will win this game for them. Prediction: Vicious and Delicious will win it by the very odd defensive score of 0 to -3

The Balled and the Beautiful vs Anything But Blue Balls on field D
Anything But Blue Balls can be a really good team. They can also be a really bad team. They are pretty inconsistent on the kickball field but very consistent in their fun level. The Balled and The Beautiful have not recorded their first win of the season but that may change this week. The Balled and the Beautiful will pull off the upset and ABBB won't seem very affected by it. Prediction: The Balled and The Beautiful wins 4-1.

What do you think of the Week 5 predictions?

Crime Doesn't Pay

Times are tough and some people resort to extremes to help themselves out. Time and time again, we are reminded that crime doesn't pay, at all. Here is a good example of that. Its amazing that this guy didn't break his neck. Don't try this on your way to the kickball fields.

Trophies

This division has never had them before but I thought it would be nice to give the winning team a little something at the end of the season. So going forward, we are going to start giving trophies to our regular season champs and our playoff champs. The teams will get to keep these trophies so the captains can decide what to do with them. The trophies are now in and will be kept in a super secret special location with armed guards, attack dogs and sharks with laserbeams. So here is what the trophies look like so you can get an idea of what the prizes are. The trophy on the left goes to the team that wins the playoffs and the one on the right goes to the team that has the best record at the end of the regular season.

What do you think of the new trophies?

Trash

Please remember that all trash must be taken from the fields after games. No trash should be left in the trash barrels. There is a dumpster that we can use.

There was a lot of trash left in trash barrels last night and that can't happen in the future. Be smart and take the trash to the dumpster. Thank you to the players on the Seminoles, Tech USA - Where My Pitches At, and Suck My Kick for staying late last night to take care of all of the trash that was left by other teams.

If we have a problem with the trash in the future we will have to start assessing penalties in the standings for teams that leave trash.

Did you leave trash in the barrels?

Tied for first

If you take a quick look at the standings you will notice that this week all of the "perfect teams" lost this week. That leaves just 2 undefeated teams. They faced off against each other already and tied their game. That leaves them in a perfect tie for first place, they are even tied in the tie breakers. They have the same record, tied each other in the head to head matchup and have the same number of total runs against (runs for does not figure into the standings but they are even tied in that). We will have to see how the rest of the season plays out.

Meanwhile we also have 3 teams that are thus far, completely defeated, Ball Kickers, The Balled and the Beautiful and Raging Balls. Yes one of those teams is my team but we are really much better than our record shows. No really we are. I swear.

Which of these undefeated teams is the best?

Which of these defeated teams is the worst?

Week 5 Theme - Athletic Apparel

Week 5 should be an easy theme for most of you. Its Athletic apparel. Come with your favorite jersey, helmet or pads. Just as long as you have your WAKA t-shirt, you should be good to go. There will be extra points for anyone who shows up wearing full hockey goalie pads.

This past week I'll have to give the prize to Erik for his 80's movies get up. He got dressed as Ogre from Revenge of the Nerds. Apparently there are a lot of you who are not familiar with revenge of the Nerds, its a classic 80's movie. Vicious and Delicious looked good too with their Caddyshack and Ghostbusters references but Erik has waited for some time to win the prize and he clinched it with his chug off performance.

Meet We've Got The Runs

As I'm sure you can tell, I have a good time writing the blog so hopefully at least a couple of you are enjoying reading it. I like to profile certain teams or players to let people know who else is in the division. Kickball is, afterall, a social activity and a great place to meet new people. So I decided that since we have so many new teams and players this season, I will try to interview and profile a new team captain each week for the rest of the season. By "I will try", I mean I will try to pass that duty on someone else for next week but this week I talked to the captains of We've Got The Runs.

Anne is the captain of We've Got The Runs and her co-captain is Michelle but Anne will tell you that Michelle actually runs the show, Anne just likes to be a figure head and have people bow down before her. Their team has lots of heart, lots of soul and lots of beer sports beverages and often have more coolers than players. They were very disappointed last week when their opponent in week 3 had to borrow a beer sports beverage for the chug off.

Anne was telling me that her team is made up mostly of nurses and construction workers and even a teacher or two thrown in. Anne was a member of Don't Touch Our Balls last season and all of her friends made fun of her for playing kickball. That's until Anne let her friends know that kickball was awesome and if you don't play kickball you can't be awesome. So she got lots of her friends to sign up, told her dad to tell his friends' kids to sign up, the word got out to cousins, former roomates, ex-lovers, step brothers etc etc until things just started sounding a little incestuous.

She seems to have put together a pretty fun team. They may not be great at kickball, in fact they are considering changing the team name to "We've Got The Run" since they can't seem to score more than once per game, but they are all having fun and that's really whats most important. What does her team enjoy most? As it turns out, they love eating chicken nuggets and macaroni and cheese before and after each game.

Both Anne and Michelle are trauma nurses at Tampa General Hospital. So guys, if you think they are cute, which you would be correct, and you would like a chance to meet them and have something to talk to them about, just chop off a finger or two and tell the ambulance to bring you to TGH.

Week 4 Recap

By some miracle, we were able to actually play kickball last night. It was a monsoon at 6 pm in every area around the field, except for the field itself which just got a sprinkling. By game time, everything had past and though the ball was slick and it was quite humid, it was actually a great night to play kickball.

On field A, Suck My Kick and Ball Kickers did battle at 7pm. Ok so maybe if you looked at the final score you wouldn't think that "did battle" was an accurate description but there were some high kicks with shoe projectiles thanks to a certain Jared "John" Holmes. In case anyone hasn't noticed yet, Ball Kickers are still yet to score a run on the season. At this rate, there is a very good chance that if they are able to score a run in the game, they will simply march off the field victorious. Even if they are losing the game by a large margin. Suck My Kick took this one, 6-0.

The next game of the night pitted Don't Touch Our Balls against Quit Yer Pitchin. There is only one thing you need to know about this game. In the last inning, with runners on base, a QYP kicker kicked the best kick I have seen in a long long time. This ball was kicked into the next zip code. Unfortunately for QYP, apparently Don't Touch Our Balls has Usain Bolt playing left field, who made an amazing outstretched, one handed catch, ala Randy Moss, turning what would have been a game changing home run into the last out of the game. Don't Touch Our Balls went to the top of the table with this win, 5-3. After the game Don't Touch Our Balls was enjoying some shots of vodka provided by a group of Ukrainians. Scarlet was asked if she would be putting out and replied, "They are putting out for us". Oh Scarlet! (she said I could quote her on that)

The Seminoles and The Balled and The Beautiful faced off in the garnett and gold game. In the 3rd inning the score was 2-1 in favor of the Seminoles who had the bases loaded. A ball was kicked down the line, while The Balled and The Beautiful thought it was foul (and apparently so did one of the refs) the official call was a fair ball so the Seminoles cleared the bases while the Balled and the Beautiful stood around watching. According to Jen, this game was again, "Pure raw awesomeness". Seminoles won 7-1

In the profiled game of the week, Vicious and Delicious took on New Kicks On The Block. Mike didn't wear his Darth Vader mask which was very upsetting but it was suggested by his anger management therapist that he refrain from such things after his outburst after reading the blog last week. Vicious and Delicious's Ghostbusters were laying it all out on the line making some fantastic plays in the field while meanwhile, Joe Albano let his flag and country down by being the worst basecoach ever (according to his teammates) by sending a runner with 2 outs in an obvious suicide baserunning move. New Kicks came out on top, 2-0.

On the late game on field A we saw Tech USA - Where My Pitches At and Kick In A Box. Overheard on the Kick In A Box sideline, "We lost a few arguments and we lost again." Homeboy also said, "Don't call me homeboy" and "Don't kick the ball to me again, you'll be sorry" at which point everyone on Tech USA - WMPA kicked it to homeboy and they weren't sorry. The team with the rediculously long name won 4-1.

On Field B we saw Your Mom Makes a Dry Roast and Anything But Blue Balls. In this pastel color showdown, Anything But Blue Balls just couldn't continue their winning ways. Historically speaking, ABBB can be an excellent team but can be very inconsistent. This week they had lots of bad baserunning, lots of overthrows and generally sloppy play. Your Mom Makes a Dry Roast was victorious 7-1.

The Bull Gators and We've got the Run(s) took part in the Orange and Blue game and again this game had a similar outcome to the UF spring game with the Orange team on top. This game's greatest moment was when Dee kept running, running right past home plate to the cone before getting tagged out. Bull Gators won 8-1.

In one of the most fun games of the week, we had Raging Balls and I Already Hit That on field D. As has happened so often this season in games involving Raging Balls, bad math played a roll in the game, but this time it wasn't Raging Balls fault. Both Teams scored in the first. IAHT scored again in the 3rd when they had 2 runs cross home on one play. Raging Balls correctly scored the 2 runs but IAHT only marked down that they scored once on the play. In the top of the 5th inning the Ty Train came rolling around third at full steam to score, causing the Limeys to believe the score was tied 2-2, when it was really 3-2. When Raging Balls was lining up to congratulate the other team, I Already Hit That protested and said they still had their ups and a chance to break the 2-2 tie. Well Raging Balls didn't need to be told that twice and they quickly took the field hoping for a blank slate in the bottom half of the inning and convince the other team that it was a tie. Unfortunately I Already Hit That scored so either way the final score to the game was 3-2.

Is Mike Angry? Yes

So I guess some people have been asking if Mike from New Kicks on the Block is angry. I guess some people thought my game recap from last week was a little on the harsh side and wondered if Mike was upset by the whole thing. The truth is, yes he was very upset. How upset? See for yourself. This is actual security tape footage taken from Mike's work at the exact moment when he read the game updates from last week on the blog.

Random Video for the Week

I know you have all been looking forward to the random video of the week. Ok so maybe you haven't but maybe you should. This video sort of speaks for itself. Like many of you, I grew up with Sesame Street but I don't remember it being like this. If it was, I'd probably still be watching it. FYI, may not be suitable for work.

Week 4 predictions

So now that we've got a few weeks in the books we can start to get an idea of who the teams are, what they are good at, what they aren't good at yadda yadda. I now have enough info to start making weekly predictions. Not that I really base my predictions on any sort of facts as much as just pulling stuff out of my ass. So here are my guaranteed predictions for week 4.

Ball Kickers vs Suck My Kick on field A
This season, Suck My Kick is the epitome of average. If you have ever seen the movie Idiocracy, you would know that the main character, Joe, is selected for a military project because he is perfectly average. Suck My Kick is the Breaker Division's Joe. They are about average in overall standings, runs for and runs against. Awesome! Meanwhile Ball Kickers have had a rough go at it so far and haven't scored a run yet this season. Expect this to be an average game overall. Suck My Kick will go into the 5th inning with a 3 run lead (about average). Ball Kickers will somehow get the bases loaded and will devise a brilliant strategy. With their best kicker at the plate, the rest of the pink team will flash Suck My Kick just as he kicks the ball. This will distract the Suckers and result in a grand slam to win the game. Prediction: Ball Kickers 4-3

Don't Touch Our Balls vs Quit Yer Pitchin on field B
Both teams are currently undefeated, though Don't Touch Our Balls does have one tie. This game will pit 2 of the best offenses in the division together. Don't Touch Our Balls also has the second best defense in the division. The deciding factor in this game may be Quit Yer Pitchin's desire to win at any costs. Don't Touch Our Balls will score a run in the first inning. Facing a 1 run deficit in the 4th inning, Courtney from Quit Yer Pitchin will bunt. Running like hell with her bobblehead sprinting style and kick the shins of each Don't Touch Our Balls defensive players as she rounds the bases for a bunt home run. Predicion: tie 1-1

Seminoles vs The Balled and The Beautiful on field C
The Seminoles have been looking forward to this matchup for a while. Why? Because it's garnet vs gold. The Seminoles will probably treat this like a spring intersquad game so scoring should be pretty high by kickball standards. Prediction: Gold defeats Garnet 39-27

Vicious and Delicious vs New Kicks on the Block on field D
This game is the epic showdown of the week. Mike will chop off Jimmy's hand then tell him that he's his father. Jimmy will get a robotic hand and we will all forget that he ever had it chopped off except that he will wear a black glove. Jimmy will find out that he's been lusting after his sister and team up with Mike to kill some old wrinkly dude. Then a bunch of teddy bears will defeat Mike's technologically advanced empire. Prediction: Vicious and Delicious 2-1

Tech USA - Where My Pitches At vs Kick in a Box on Field A
With just 3 games played so far on the season, Tech USA has found a way to somehow be a .500 team. They've got solid defense but have yet to catch fire on offense. Meanwhile, Kick in a Box, who is loving their purple t-shirts by the way, are coming off a tough battle last week that they probably should have lost. The only reason they won was because they cheated. Ok so maybe they didn't cheat and maybe I'm just bitter that they beat my team last week. Just for that, they deserve to get beat this week. Prediction: Tech USA wins 4-1.

Your Mom Makes a Dry Roast vs Anything But Blue Balls on field B
If there is anything that these two teams like, it's long team names. It would be great if these two team names were the Jets and the Rays or something simple like that but noooooooo. These teams have to be special and make paragraphs for team names. Seriously guys? Just for that, I'm going to make this prediction as short and boring as possible. Prediction: tie 0-0

Bull Gators vs We've Got The Runs on field C
While The Seminoles and the Balled and the Beautiful have their Garnet and Gold game, these two teams will have an Orange and Blue game. Ironically enough its even on the same field. Expect to see tailgating, some guy yelling something about archaic currency, an impressive amount of superiority complex and an unhealthy obsession with Tim Tebow. Prediction: Orange beats Blue 31-21

I Already Hit That vs Raging Balls on field D
Neither of these teams have won yet. On the plus side for I Already Hit That is that they at least tied a game. On the downside for them, they have only scored one run this season. Meanwhile Raging Balls brought in a ringer last week who is determined to teach the team how to play kickball, and how to add. Raging Balls will be disappointed at the end of the game, thinking that they lost 3-1, only to later check their poor math skills and realize it is only the 4th inning and they are up 3-2. Their discovery will excite them enough to score another run. Prediction: Raging Balls 4-2

Which is likely to be the most accurate prediction for week 4?

Do you think Kickball should be an olympic sport?

Epic Showdown

This season we have a lot of split teams from last season. Bull Gators and Don't Touch Our Balls were once just Don't Touch Our Balls and Raging Balls and Kick in a Box were once Smack My Pitch Up. Those teams all faced off against each other in week 3 but week 4 has the granddaddy of them all. Vicious and Delicious will take the field against New Kicks on the Block.

A long time ago in a field not so far away, they were known as Also Available in Sober. That was until the dark sith lord used his influential power to dissolve the Senate, made himself emperor and eliminated all of the Jedi knights. Can Jimmy's rag tag bunch of rebels (Vicious and Delicious) defeat Darth Mike and his clone army (New Kicks On The Block)? Is it possible that Mike is Jimmy's father? What the hell is Chewbacca talking about? Since the Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi were released in the 80's will people come dressed as Star Wars characters, especially like Princess Leia as Jaba the Hut's slave? One can only hope. We will find out Week 4.

Week 4 Theme - 80's movies

The theme for week 4 will be 80's movies. Everyone does the 80's but we are going to put a little twist on it and go 80's movies. Come dressed as characters from any 80's movie. Come as Indiana Jones, any of the Star Wars characters, Ghostbusters, Doc Brown from Back to the Future or maybe even your favorite Nerd. I'm sure you can just wear some 80's garb if you want since I'm sure there were plenty of people wearing 80's garb in those 80's movies. Need help with ideas? Try going to Wikipedia's 1980's in film article.

The winner of this week's Challenge is...

Last night was the SNL theme. Vicious and Delicious got all dressed up like Night at the Roxbury and Wayne's World but they also won the shot this week. Raging Balls had a SNL shirt (with WAKA t-shirt cape) and a conehead. So lets put it to a vote. Which team should get a shot named after them at MacDinton's next week?

Who should get a shot named after them for next week?

Week 3 Recap

We have now completed 3 weeks on the season and we are starting to see who the movers and the shakers are. By now you should also be able to identify the teams with the most "talent". So lets get to the action.

Suck My Kick and Balled and the Beautiful faced off on field A in the early game and what a game it was. Dave Weller blasted a monstrous kick in the 4th inning but pulled a hammy while rounding the bases. I am told that after he was airlifted from the field (funny, I don't remember seeing a helicopter) his teammate, Stew, kicked home the game winning run and the final score was 5-3 in favor of Suck My Kick. Rob from Suck My Kick would like everyone to know that he's an allstar.

The teams now known as the Bull Gators and Don't Touch Our Balls are a result of a great schism of the formerly dominant Don't Touch Our Balls (aka the green team). Some say they split over an argument about ecclesiology but really they just had too many people sign up this season. For those of you who are new to the division, the green machine basically won every game they played for like 5 seasons (except for when they decided to take a forfeit because they would rather go to a baseball game and one other time). The Bull Gators were supposed to be the A team in the split but best laid plans yadda yadda yadda. Don't Touch Our Balls won 3-0.

Kick in a Box and Raging Balls are also the result of a team split from the old Smack My Pitch Up team. This was a really tough fought game but unfortunately Raging Balls is still having trouble with first grade math. They have difficulty counting the number of outs, the number of players in the field and now apparently, the number of runs scored by the other team. Raging Balls put up a threat in the 5th with bases loaded and 2 outs but just couldn't get the job done. Kick in a Box won 5-4. Just as a side note, wearing a rubber cone head on the field is really really hot. Ok so that might not come across exactly the same way as I meant it.

Tech USA and I Already Hit That faced off in a circus side show spectacular. There were somersaults, crazy colored t-shirt and even rumors of some creepy carnies lurking around the field. In case you were concerned over the rumbling earth last night, don't worry, it wasn't an earthquake. It was just Erik sliding home to score the first run of the season for his team. Final score: it was tied fun to fun (1-1).

The late game on Field A pitted Your Mom Makes a Dry Roast against Vicious and Delicious. Apparently some crazy ninjas showed up and did some crazy karate kicks which Tracy from Your Mom thought was the funniest thing ever. The anonymous player who was taken out at second seemed to disagree. Vicious and Delicious continued their winning ways and won 2-0.

The Seminoles looked pretty dominant last night in their game against the Ball Kickers. Seminole pitcher, Dale, even had a 3 pitch inning. This game can be pretty easily summed up with 2 quotes. "We owned 'em" - Dale. "Pure Raw Awesomeness" - Jen. The pink team took it up the pooper, 9-0.

Field C's late game hosted a pair of undefeated teams, Anything But Blue Balls and New Kicks On The Block. Obviously something had to give. This was a down and dirty game with lots of sliding all over the place but the game was decided by New Kicks' captain Mike making a bad defensive play, allowing 2 runs to score for ABBB. Just like the Seminoles game, this can be best summed up by a quote. "Man, that Mike, what a tool. That was just a dumb play. You know? Its just like, what the hell are you doing out there?. What a Jackass!" - President Obama. Kanye West quickly jumped onto the fields and blurted, "I've seen some bad plays made but Mike made one of the worst plays of all time."

Our last game of the night was between Quit Yer Pitchin and We've Got the Runs. Unfortunately for the royal blue team, the team name this week should have been We've Got No Runs as they fell to Quit Yer Pitchin 9-0. As I was packing up the equipment after the games were over I found 2 notes left for me. One was folded nicely, smelled like perfume and had a lipstick kiss on it. It read, "Dear Ty, Quit Yer Pitchin cheated. They were aggressive and unruly and got into fights and that's why they won. They are jerks. -love always, your secret admirer." The other note was all wrinkled and partially torn and smelled like mud. "Dear jerkface, The other team, whatever their names are, are losers. We beat them. We win by any means necessary. Everyone just needs to quit their bitchin. - Quit Yer Pitchin."

Which team has the most "talent"?

Week 3

Random Video for the Week

This week's Random Video of the Week has nothing to do with anything (that's the point of it being random, genius). Speaking of geniuses... wow. This woman has the answers to all of life's problems. She is brilliant, kinda, sorta, not really, not at all actually. If nothing else, I guess this should teach you to get involved with your local government and have your opinions expressed because if you don't, someone like this just might.

If you have any suggestions of cool videos to share with the division pass them on to me and if its good enough it might make it to the Random Video of the Week.

Theme for Week 3 - SNL

So I haven't heard from Erik yet about what theme he wants for week 3 so I came up with one myself. The theme is SNL. Come dresses as your favorite character from Saturday Night Live. You can come dressed as a character from any era of SNL. Landshark, Buckwheat, Blues Brothers, Pat, The Ambiguously Gay Duo or even McGrubber.

The team with the best costumes will get a shot named after them the following week at MacDinton's.

Spice Girls

Ok so I have been proven wrong. The Vicious and Delicious Spice Girls did show up to MacDinton's. They were just gone by the time I got there since I have to stay at the fields until all of the games are finished.

Don't they look so cute? If my Wikipedia research is correct, from left to right is Baby Spice, Scary Spice, Ginger Spice, Posh Spice and Sporty Spice. Good work girls. I like the group effort.

So given this new bit of evidence, I will put it to a vote to decide who will get the shot named after their team next week. There are only a couple of days to vote so lets wee who wants it more and gets the word out to vote.

Who should have a shot named after their team?

Looking For Board Members

As I am sure you have already noticed. Kickball can be a lot of fun but kickball can be even more fun when more people get involved. We are currently looking for people to help plan parties, help with field set up, take lots of photos and help create a division newsletter. If you are interested in being on the board just let me know asap so we can get some things rolling. You know how to contact me. You probably have a few of my emails in your inbox.

Best Singer Costume

Erik won the best costume contest last night for dressing up as a member of the Village People. Because of his outstanding effort his team will have a shot named after his team, I Already Hit That, next week at MacDinton's. The runner up was Flava Flave from Balled and the Beautiful. The Spice girls from Vicious and Delicious looked great but weren't seen at the bar, otherwise we could be drinking Vicious and Delicious shots next week.

editors note: since evidence was presented that the Spice Girls did go to MacDinton's I have decided to put the contest to a vote. Check back later to see who gets the shot named after their team next week.

Keep checking back to the blog this week. Once Erik lets me know what next week's theme is I will post it up here.

Week 2 Results

Week 2 is now in the books and hopefully everyone is having lots of fun. We are starting to see who the teams are and who has the most talent. You may define "talent" however you want. There was lots of good defense again this week, even the teams that last week looked like they had never heard of the word defense played well in the field. MacDinton's was a ton of fun, even if I did have to leave a little earlier than I usually do. I had to get home to finish up some recipes for feeding the homeless on Wed. No that is not a line, it is true and while we were playing kickball I had something cooking in the slow cooker at home. So anyways lets get to the action.

The Seminoles and Don't Touch Our Balls renewed their storied rivalry. Luckily the riot police stayed at home and the national guard did not have to be recalled from Iraq and Afghanistan to bring order to this game. There was quite a bit of argument and heated discussion about string theory. Neither team could get Steven Hawking on the phone so they had to settle their argument by playing kickball. Unfortunately we may never know the true nature of the fundamental building blocks of physics because the Seminoles and Don't Touch Our Balls tied 2-2. Good Luck to Molly and Scarlet from DTOB who will be running in a triathlon this weekend.

On Field B we had Raging Balls and Anything But Blue Balls. That's a lot of balls. After their dismal defensive showing last week, the green team decided to switch things up on defense, alot. In fact they started using their firedrill defense. After every pitch the defense would yell "firedrill" and everyone would run to a different position. It didn't take very long to realize that it would wear them out pretty quick so they switched to every other pitch. It was a close game but Anything But Blue Balls took it in the end and won 1-0.

Vicious and Delicious had a secret weapon this week. The spice girls. Some of their girls got all girl powered out, complete with flashy boom mic headphones. They would have been favorites to win this week's challenge for the team with the best costumes of singers but I didn't see them at MacDinton's so they were disqualified. What Vicious and Delicious really wanted, what they really really wanted was a win on the field and they got that with a 2-1 victory over Tech USA - Where My Pitches At.

Suck My Kick faced off against We've Got the Runs. I have absolutely no idea what happened other than that Suck My Kick won 4-3.

Your Mom Makes a Dry Roast and I Already Hit That either both played some incredible defense or absolutely terrible offense. After 6 scoreless innings (and the refs walking off the field with the bases and cones) the teams decided they still had time to get in one more inning. Your Mom Makes a Dry Roast was able to score in the top of the inning on a fielder's choice. I Already Hit That wasn't able to match them and the Dry Roasters won 1-0.

New Kicks on the Block kicked off against Kick In A Box in a kicktastic kickstravaganza. It was the kickinest game of the week. OK that's enough of that. The best news from this game is that not only did Kick In A Box show up early for the game but they even showed up in force at MacDinton's. It was a proud moment. Unfortunately for them the final result of the game wasn't so proud as New Kicks On The Block won 3-1.

The captain of the Bull Gators had envisioned his team as the A squad from the Don't Touch Our Balls schism. They were hoping to inherit the old team's dominance but so far they haven't been able to capture the old green team mojo. Last week they lost to the Seminoles but this week they faced off against Ballkickers who lost big last week. Somehow Ballkickers were able to get their defense under control but weren't able to spark anything on offense. Bull Gators ended up victorious 1-0. Does anyone remember seeing either team at the bar?

The Balled and the Beautiful faced off against Quit Yer Pitchin. Its late and I'm tired. I've got nothing. Quit Yer Pitchin won 3-2.

Which of these unblemished teams has the best chance to win the regular season?

Do you know what a "dry roast" is?

Contributors Wanted

This blog can be a lot of fun but I can't be everywhere at once so we need more contributors to help write game recaps, articles and take pictures. If you want to contribute to the division blog send me an email by going to the contact form on the WAKA website.

Week 2 Theme - Singers

The theme for week 2 is brought to you by I Already Hit That again. This time the theme will be singers. Come dressed as your favorite singer, dead or alive. Extra credit will be given to anyone who gets on stage at MacDinton's and sings some karaoke as their favorite singer.

Week 1 Results

Well what a fun time week 1 was. There is clearly lots of talent in the division this season. Week 1 was full of good defense, well except for a couple of cases. Half of the games ended in shutouts.

The Bull Gators and Seminoles game was probably the most anticipated game of week 1. The Seminoles are the most veteran team in the division and have won a couple of championships. The Bull Gators are half of the old Don't Touch Our Balls team that lost like 2 games in 5 seasons or something ridiculous like that. The game was intense but luckily no one was arrested and the Seminoles got things off to a good start by winning 3-1.

The other half of Don't Touch Our Balls is called... well Don't Touch Our Balls and they were able to continue their winning ways in the first blowout of the night. Don't be confused by the pink t-shirts, Ballkickers are not the old Ballers. Don't Touch Our Balls rolled 11-0.

We've Got The Runs and The Balled and the Beautiful had a pitchers duel going. Since my team for the last 2 seasons wore Royal Blue it was a little strange to not play in this game. In any event, We've Got The Runs was somehow able to get one run in this defensive showdown and won 1-0.

Field D saw the match-up between two teams with some of the longest names. Your Mom Makes a Dry Roast faced off against Tech USA - Where My Pitches At. Your Mom Makes a Dry Roast lost the number-of-letters-in-the-team-name contest by a score of 23-21. While that and $2 will buy you a Sam Adams draft at MacDinton's it really doesn't mean very much. Unfortunately for they team in yellow they also lost the kickball game by the same margin and Tech USA - Where My Pitches At won 2-0.

The late game one Field A was Raging Balls vs New Kicks On The Block. Lets not talk about this one. At least I was able to peg Wes as he was trying to score. New Kicks on the Block put a shellacking on Raging Balls 13-1.

Quit Yer Pitchin and Suck My Kick were two of the better teams last season. Its likely that it will be the same case this season as these two teams faced off in one of the best games this week. Quit Yer Pitchin just narrowly took the win in this one by a score of 3-2.

The late game on field C was not a good game if you were color blind. Even if you weren't color blind it was a little tough to see the difference between the pistachio t-shirts of Vicious and Delicious and the lime green t-shirts of I Already Hit That. Maybe that contributed to the final outcome or maybe not. I Already Hit That, with their gangster theme, took it to Vicious and Delicious 5-0. Wait, no, I'm wrong. See, those colors are too similar. Actually it was Vicious and Delicious that won this game.

One of the most fun teams from last season, Anything But Blue Balls showed up for their game about an hour and a half early. Meanwhile Kick In A Box showed up about 2 minutes before game time. Maybe that extra preparation and strategizing paid off because Anything But Blue Balls won 5-2. The real disappointment though was that no purple t-shirts were seen at MacDinton's after the games. What's up with that?

There were a lot of new faces last night and week 1 is always a week to just sort of see who everyone is and evaluate your team so the week 1 results are probably not a great indication of how the rest of the season will go. What we did see is how cool some of the new players are. Here is to the start of a great season!

Week 1

Random Video for the week

Returning players are probably fully aware of my love for youtube and the ridiculousness that comes from it. This video may not have anything to do with kickball but its still fun and funny. If you know of any stupid silly videos on youtube, pass them on.

Oh and don't forget to check out the companion rap video.
