Man Arrested At Macy's In NYC For Carrying Sword

Man Arrested At Macy's In NYC For Carrying Sword

NEW YORK, May. 26, 2008
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(AP) A man who was carrying a rusted pirate-style sword through Macy's flagship store in Manhattan is facing charges of criminal possession of a weapon.

Police say 29-year-old Lawrence Jackson was brandishing the curved sword while visiting Macy's Herald Square store Sunday with his girlfriend.

He told police he was carrying the sword because he is a member of a kickball team whose players often wear pirate-themed costumes. He maintains he was on his way to a game when he was arrested.

Tampa Police Deal With Fights At Park Kickball Game

Tampa Police Deal With Fights At Park Kickball Game
By HOWARD ALTMAN | The Tampa Tribune

Published: May 22, 2008

TAMPA - Another kickball game, another melee.

A city-sanctioned kickball game at Julian B. Lane Riverfront Park on Wednesday night devolved into a brawl involving about 100 people, according to a police report.

This is the police version of what happened, according to the report:

About 7:30, a woman called 911 to say that about 100 players and spectators were fighting. When officers arrived, they saw a large crowd in the parking lot. The crowd was gathered around people who were fighting. Because people were being uncooperative, police had a difficult time getting to the fight.

When they finally reached the people who were fighting, police found several girls with ripped shirts. Hair weaves that had been pulled from the heads of combatants. Before police could make any arrests, the girls quickly blended into the large crowd.

No one was willing to identify who was fighting or offer any details.

As the crowd began to disperse, police advised the event organizer – who was not named in the report - that the game would have to end.

The organizer became vocal about her rights to have the game in the park and shouted obscenities at police.

Within minutes another fight broke out across the street involving the same people, who at this point had armed themselves with sticks. Again a crowd gathered and the officers had to force their way through the crowd. No victims or suspects could be located, so no arrests were made.

Kickball games have been a focal point for trouble at the park.

The problem: Hundreds of people congregate at the parks during the kickball games. The police department has heard complaints about trash in nearby yards, parking issues, drinking, drug abuse and fights.

On April 13, the city made nine drug arrests linked to the kickball games, police spokeswoman Andrea Davis said.

McLovin Kicks Ass

Tampa, FL - Don't Touch My Balls may have won the Breaker division playoffs but that may have only been because they didn't have to face off against McLovin. McLovin's numbers were decimated by the fact that each member of the team received about 5 invitations to 8,000 weddings all happening in the same weekend. McLovin could only scrape 6 players together to play in the tournament.

Forced to forfeit against the Relocators the McLovin team indicated that they still wanted to play for fun. Players from other teams offered to "help out" and play for the short sided squad but McLovin insisted that they wanted to kick ass with only 6 people. They did grab 1 player to play catcher but other than that it was just the 6 brave McLovin players in a defensive alignment that reminded many in attendance of the population density of the state of Montana.

Whether the Relocators were too confident against the short sided team or McLovin's defense is just that fucking solid, the Relocators were unable to get any more than 1 base runner all game long, and that ended up being a home run when I, though apparently dominant as a pitcher, was either too lazy or too tired to cover third when our third baseman (Garrett) shifted to cover second.

McLovin scored as many runs (6) as they had players show up and probably could have scored more but with all the running around in the heat were too exhausted to run anymore. The final score was 6-1 with McLovin victorious but with the Relocators advancing in the playoffs ripe for slaughter.

McLovin will join the ranks of the old Balls Deep team in the Bayshore division in the Winter of 2006 as one of the greatest short handed teams ever. In that season a Balls Deep team with only 7 players played the Shaky Alibis. After going down by 7 runs and losing one player to a sprained ankle and another player suffering a dislocated finger while sliding home were able to come back and win by 8 runs in the last week of the regular season. I had the honor of playing on both teams.

Rumor has it that Don't Touch My Balls were quite relieved that they did not have to face McLovin, of course rumors aren't always completely accurate.

The McLovin All Stars are Garrett, Nicole, Laura, Brad, Anna and Ty (that's me).

Crystal Pitcher Results

The votes are in the results are final. C U Next Tuesday are once again the Breaker Division's Crystal Pitcher Champions.

We counted the ballots on the field and anounced the results to a few people only to find out that one team hadn't yet put their ballots in the box but they said they were all voting for C U Next Tuesday. When I opened the box later on there were now a lot of empty ballots and the numbers were the same so that team didn't actually fill out their ballots.

Hell, this is Florida. Why does this not surprise me? I guess we have our first pregnant chad incident in the Crystal Pitcher voting.

Here are the results.

C U Next Tuesday 22
Drunk Again And Looking To Score 21
Team Turtlehead 9
McLovin 7
Where My Pitches At 4
Seminoles 4
Relocators 3
Don't Touch My Balls 2

(Blank Ballots 11)

I have a feeling that the Relocators are feeling a little sting today after they got less votes than the Seminoles.

Don't Touch My Balls Repeat

The Green Machine, Don't Touch My Balls repeated as division playoff champions. They, along with playoff runners up, Where My Pitches At should expect to receive invitations to participate in the WAKA Founders Cup on Labor Day weekend this September in fabulous Las Vegas.

Check out the bracket below to see the scores to all of the games.

Crystal Pitcher

The Crystal Pitcher is awarded to the team that displays the most sportsmanship, is the most fun to play and is overall the most fun team in the division. The winner is voted on by all of the players at the playoff tournament.

Since this is a social league the Crystal Pitcher Award is much more important than who wins the tournament or regular season. Last year C U Next Tuesday won with their pink kilts but seem to be a different team this season.

Can C U Next Tuesday repeat or can someone else grab the prize? Will it be Drunk Again And Looking To Score who always show up drunk again and looking to score, or will the easy going and fun Relocators have a chance? Will McLovins good sportsmanship give them the push needed to win the prize? Will the Turtlehead's diapers help them or hurt them in the Crystal Pitcher Ballot? Can the Seminoles surprise everyone and pull off the Crystal Pitcher upset?

Remember, everyone who shows up to the tournament can vote once but you can not vote for your own team.

Feel free to comment on this post and say who you think should win and why.

Ref Fund

As you all know, your captains discussed at the captains meeting that we should have hired referees for the playoff tournament and agreed that if each team chips in we can pay refs from the Bayshore division to ref our games. So far I have recieved payment from McLovin, DrunkAgainAndLookingToScore, WhereMyPitchesAt and Relocators. I am still awaiting payment from CU Next Tuesday, Seminoles, Don't Touch My Balls and Team Turtlehead but I am under the impression that that money is being collected but just hasn't reached me yet.

I have 4 players from the Bayshore division with great knowledge of the WAKA rules all lined up and ready to ref for the playoffs. Each of those people has been playing in the Bayshore division for at least 5 seasons if not more. One actually signed up for the WAKA Certified Referee program and will be reffing in Vegas for the Founders Cup in September so I expect some good officiating during the games.

The early round games will have 2 refs each with the final game having 4 refs.

Playoff Reminder

Breaker Kickballers,

Reminder that the playoffs are this Saturday starting at 11am at the PAL fields. To check out the brackets go to www.kickball.com/flbreaker/playoffs.html.

Teams are encouraged to bring tents, grills and whatever else to help with the tailgaiting atmosphere and everyone is welcome to stay after their team is eliminated until the last game is complete.

In addition to the tournament we will also be having voting for the Crystal Pitcher award. This is awarded to the team that was the most fun, showed the best sportsmanship, and was the most fun to play during the regular season. Everyone in the division is allowed to vote once for the Crystal Pitcher but you may not vote for your own team.

Please be sure to bring plenty of water and sunscreen to the fields this Saturday. Show up early to set up your grills and tents so that we can start our games on time.

It is very important that the beverage policy is strictly followed for the playoffs. All beverages must be in solid colored solo cups, no glass bottles, kegs or party balls are allowed. All beverage containers must be covered and all trash must be kept in trash bags and disposed of in the dumpsters at the end of the day. Anyone violating this policy will be asked to leave the field and result in forcing their team to forfeit the tournament.

If you smoke please throw your cigarette butts in the trash and not on the field. Please utilize the porta-potties.

Lets have a great playoff tournament. Good luck to you all. I look forward to seeing you all on the fields.
