Awesome Party

For those of you who missed it... Saturday was an awesome time at Howl at the Moon. If anyone has any pictures you can email me and I will post them on the blog. Thanks for everyone who came and made it a fun night. I wonder if anyone ended up being in this situation:

Just Because

I had to post this because I am just so happy that its baseball season and very excited for the renewal of the most storied rivalry in baseball this weekend. You all know who I will be cheering for.

Week 9 Recap

OK, yeah, so it's taken me a little longer than usual to post a recap but it was a busy day so sorry about that. Anyways, here's what happened this week.

Field A apparently saw a highly contested match between Don't Touch Our Balls and Also Available in Sober. From what I heard there was quite a bit of accusation that Don't Touch Our Balls were attempting to man bunt. I don't know, I didn't see it but the way we defined it in the Captains' meeting before the season was that man bunting was illegal and was defined by the intent to deaden the ball instead of kicking it away and that you had to have follow through to your kick. There was no distance that had to be traveled for it to be considered a bunt. Like I said, I didn't see any of the supposed bunts but I will say that whether they were or weren't bunts, its hard to win when your team doesn't score. Don't Touch Our Balls won 3-0.

Balls N Dolls showed once again that they are a force to be recognized in the division this season as they put a whooping on Id Hit It Again. This was Balls N Dolls 4th shut out of the season and are just slightly behind Don't Touch Our Balls in runs against on the season. Balls N Dolls have given up 15 runs this season and unfortunately for them 7 of them were in one game. That was their only blemish on the season as they lost to the Seminoles. Anyways, this week they destroyed Id Hit It Again 7-0.

To the left you see an actual picture taken from above the PAL fields this week. That's right, its a flying pig. Rumor has it that Hitler was cold too. That's because the BA-52's beat Smack My Pitch up. That's right folks, the BA-52's beat Smack My Pitch Up. The Crazy Crowd had only 9 players show up but they didn't let that get them down and put up a 3 spot in the first inning and continued to find ways to score throughout the game. Most of the SMPU players fought hard to climb back. I say most because SMPU 3rd baseman, Kevin, had made it his mission this week to get into the Guinness book of world records for having the most throwing errors in a kickball game. Oh yeah and when the SMPU crowd was down by a run in the last inning with bases loaded and 2 outs, who was it who popped up for the final out of the game? That would be Kevin. BA-52s won 5-4.

Anything But Blue balls is not only one of the most fun teams in the division but in the second half of the season they are slowly turning into one of the best teams too. They continued to build on their newfound awesomeness this week. Saved By The Ball were hoping to be saved by the bell but the light blue squad was merciless and won 8-1.

All Banged Up and Suck My Kick played in a game that was a little tough to follow in the shadows with black going against navy. This game ended up being one of the most highly contested games of the season and for a long time the game was tied 1-1. The winning run was scored by an extremely impressive head first dive at home plate as the All Banked up player just barely beat the ball. Remember when All Banged Up couldn't score to save their life? Yeah I don't either anymore as their offense is now statistically better than 3 other teams. All Banged Up won 2-1.

Ok so I know I have talked about a couple of tight and intense games this week but really there was only one. Quit Yer Pitchin and the Seminoles. This game was packed with lots of trash talking and insults (basically just what you would expect in a game between these 2 teams. With a tight 2-2 game in the bottom of the 5th the Quit Yer Pitchin squad had a runner on 3rd and less than two outs. There wasn't an awful lot that the Seminoles could have done at that point as everyone expected a tag up play on a deep pop-up. That's exactly what happened and Quit Yer Pitchin walked off the field as victors, 3-2.

Challenge

The kids in the PAL program would like to challenge some WAKA kickballers to a high stakes game of kickball. The game will be the PAL fields this Sunday at 11am. There will probably be 2 teams of kids and 2 teams of adults. Brooke Britton on the Bayshore division is organizing a couple of "all star" teams to take on the kiddies. Check out the comments section on this post to see how to contact her to play.

Rainout

Tonight's games for April 14th have been canceled due to rain, high winds, thunderstorms, tornado warnings, flood, famine, war, pestilence, death, a few nasty horsemen, some dragon dude, a huge asteroid, a malfunctioning trigger on a nuclear bomb, a song by Aerosmith, bad acting by Ben Affleck, Michael Bay's love of explosions and other general signs of Armageddon.

Even though kickball is cancelled for the night, you can still join us at MacDintons for a good game of flip cup.

Rain

We've got some rain today but still hope to get our games in. The weather is supposed to clear but we will have to see what kind of condition the fields are in. Be sure to call into the rainout line close to your game time to see if we will be playing tonight. 813-785-9744.

Of course, if the games are rained out, everyone is still expected to go to MacDintons for some flip cup.

Are you going?

Are you going to the division Party on Saturday?

Arrive Alive

In case you needed any reminders to not drink and drive, here is a sobering story out of California.

http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/blog/big_league_stew/post/Tragic-news-Angels-pitcher-Nick-Adenhart-killed?urn=mlb,154763

Nick Adenhart, a young player for the Los Angeles Angels of Aneheim, who was the starting pitcher on Wednesday, was killed in a hit and run accident later that night. The driver responsible is being charged with DUI Manslaughter. Two others in Adenhart's car were killed.

What do you think should be the theme song for our division party?

So our Division Party is coming up on Apr 18th at Howl at the Moon. We can create our own playlist for the first hour that we are there (since we will have the place to ourselves). So on a previous post I asked people to comment and say what songs they think we should play. We had some interesting suggestions so which one of these songs do you think should be the theme song for our division party?

What should be the theme song for the Division Party on Apr 18th?

What is the best part about this blog?

Division Party

Our Division Party will be Saturday April 18th at Howl at the Moon in Channelside. The party starts at 7pm and it is free to WAKA players, $10 for guests. Check out the division webpage at www.kickball.com/flbreaker for a little more information.

For the first hour we can make our own playlist. Respond to the comments section of this post to give your 2 cents and let us know what songs we should hear.

Its easy to comment. Just hit that little comment link that you see just under this.

Playoffs

Remember, Our playoffs are Sunday May 3rd and start at 11am. It will be a single elimination tournament with the champion being crowned that day.

PAL will be selling concessions all day and every team is encouraged to bring a tent to escape the heat of the sun.

Final regular season standings will determine the seedings in the tournament.

Crystal Pitcher

This is as good a time as any to update some of the new players on one of our division traditions, the Crystal Pitcher. Whoever said that kickball wasn't a popularity contest was wrong, it is.

The Crystal Pitcher Award is awarded to the team that is most popular as voted on by players in the division. All votes are cast at the end of season tournament on May 3rd. with each player being allowed 1 vote. Players may not vote for their own team.

The Crystal Pitcher winner should be the team that is the most fun, most spirited and most sportsmanlike.

Week 7 Recap

We had some interesting plays out on the field last night, thanks in no small part to the wind. There was also quite a bit of movement in the standings. Lets look at some of last night's actions, shall we?

After a strong start to the season, Smack My Pitch Up extended it's slide to a 3 game losing streek last night. Wind was definitely a factor as a couple of balls, that on other nights would probably be hit deep in the outfield, ended up stopping in mid air and blown back into th infield. The key play of the game was definitely Courtney's slide into first (if you want to call it a slide). Courtney was running hard down the first base line and tripped over the only remaining blade of grass on Field A, resulting in a tumble and a face plant at first base. We are all glad that she wasn't hurt so we can properly laugh at the play. Quit Yer Pitchin won 3-0.

Last week, BJ from Id Hit It Again gave a rousing pep talk to his team and that seems to have worked as it scared away the Also Available In Sober girls, resulting in a forfeit for the red team. Then again maybe the pep talk wasn't as intimidating as it could have been as AAIS demolished IHIA in a game that didn't count. Id Hit It Again won by forfeit (that's 5-0 for standings purposes according to the WAKA rules on standings).

Don't Touch Our Balls defeated Suck My Kick 7-2. I could say more about this game but I have been censored by Anderson.

The late game on Field A had the worst chugg off ever as Chris from All Banged Up seemed more interested in taking a beer shower than chugging (and still lost). That didn't stop the men in black (and women in black) from continuing to put runs on the board. After taking them 4 weeks to score their first run they are now in 9th place for runs scored, adding 3 to their total last night. All Banged Up's new found scoring prominance was no match, however, for Anything But Blue Balls vicious war chant of "Skinamarinky dinky dink, skinamarinky do, I love you." Anything But Blue Balls proved victorious 6-3.

Saved By the Ball and BA-52's faced off on Field B. What is there to say about the BA-52's. After 7 weeks of play, they still have yet to post anything positive in the standings but they are having a great time out there. In all seriousness, isn't that what WAKA Kickball is all about? Last night the BA-52's decided to have a luau and gave their best HI-50 effort. Thy lost to Saved By The Ball 4-0 but they had a great time doing it as everyone got leied.

The most highly anticipated game of the night fell to Field C and was contested between the Seminoles and the mighty Balls N Dolls. I asked Biard what was blogworthy about the game and he said everything, without giving me any details so I had to get my story from Balls N Dolls. The Seminoles got off to an early lead and after the first couple of innings were already up 7-1. The Balls N Dolls fought hard, together as a team to chisel away at the lead but ultimately fell short with the final score being 7-6. With Balls N Dolls loss last night we no longer have any undefeated teams this season and Dont Touch Our Balls is back in first place (considering tiebreakers). After the game Chief Dale told his Seminoles, "You beat the best! You are the best!". Not to get too technical but a quick look at the standings shows the Seminoles to actually be 3rd best so far this season.

Week 7 Predictions

Last season I did a lot of predictions before games. This season I forgot. Oops. Oh well, I wasn't very good at determining the outcome anyways. Let's try it again. Here are my predictions for what will happen in week 7.

Smack My Pitch Up vs Quit Yer Pitchin
SMPU has troubles winning when someone on their team celebrates a birthday. This week is Cindy's birthday so SMPU is pretty much screwed. Quit Yer Pitchin will win 4-2 and tequilla shots will be enjoyed by all.

Also Available In Sober vs Id Hit It Again
Traditionally 2 of the most fun teams in the division, though this season both teams have been relatively quiet. Expect to see a few people in costume, though there may not be an actual theme, they just like to wear costumes from time to time. My prediction: going into the bottom of the 5th inning, Id Hit It Again will have a 2 run lead. BJ will give a pep talk to his team and cause them to fall asleep from boredom allowing Also Available in Sober to score at will and win 5-4

Don't Touch Our Balls vs Suck My Kick
Don't Touch Our Balls will have only 4 total people show up but Suck My Kick will allow them to play anyways. That will prove to be a bad mistake and Don't Touch Our Balls will win 837-2 but no one will know any details of the game since it will be played on the Black Hole that is Field C.

All Banged Up vs Anything But Blue Balls
Both of these teams are struggling this season but are quite thankful that BA-52s are in the division. All Banged up has scored 9 of their 10 runs so far this season in the last 2 week (and all 10 in the last 3). Can they keep up their offensive output week? I think so but it won't be enough. Anything But Blue Balls will win 4-3.

BA-52s vs Saved By The Ball
Saved By The Ball has been showing some pretty good defense this season but have struggled scoring many runs. Meanwhile BA-52s are struggling all around but they will somehow find a way to take advantage of rare mistakes by Saved By The Ball and and that crazy Texas orange team will earn their first victory of the season in an upset, 2-1.

Balls N Dolls vs Seminoles
Last but not least, this matchup pits 2 of the most competitive teams in the division against each other. Both teams have excellent offense and defense and argue calls like no other. Prediction: Kim will be hit with the ball and claim the ball never touched her, confusing the refs who will have consumed too many "sports drinks". This will incite a riot, by teams insisting that they know the rules best and PAL will have to come out in SWAT gear and launch tear gas grenades. Final score Seminoles 3 players arrested, Balls N Dolls 2 players arrested. One random fan will be injured in the melee.

WAKA Kickball Strike Zone explained

Apparently there has been some confusion on how the strike zone is defined. This video is pretty good so check it out. Remember that the ball has to bounce at least twice before crossing the plate.

Did I leave one out? Let me know.

Vince Offer Update

Again, completely off topic but definitely bizarre and a bit ironic following the article on the blog last week.

Check out The Smoking Gun for the update and to see some pictures of the mug shots.

You will never be able to watch a commercial for the Slap Chop the same way again.

Point, Billy Mays.

Week 6 Recap

Can you believe that we are now in the second half of the season? Lets take a look at how week 6 went.

Seminoles beat All Banged up 6-3. Seminole co-captain Biard assured me that there was nothing blogworthy about this game.

Quit Yer Pitching continued to show good defense against Saved By The Ball and won 3-0. The best defense of the game came from Katie who taunted the other team that she could make a catch one handed while holding her favorite sports drink in the other hand. Saved By The Ball decided to test her and sure enough, she did just what she promised. I asked Amanda (the girl with the famous kicks from last week) what I should put in the blog about the game and her reply was, "Amanda is awesome." I would tend to agree but I'm not sure if that helps describe the game. Their game was over so quick that they played a couple of extra innings for fun and a player kicked the ball basically from home plate on field B to first base on field A. I won't give you any more detail on that since it didn't count anyways. That would be like reporting who hit a homerun during batting practice.

Suck My Kick and Smack My Pitch Up faced off in a battle of the blues. Apparently everyone on SMPU is celebrating a birthday at some point during this season. Unfortunately, everytime SMPU celebrates a birthday, they lose so no one else is allowed to celebrate their birthday during the season. Final score Suck My Kick 2 Smack My Pitch Up 1.

Don't Touch Our Balls avoided forfeit again when Id Hit It Again did not force a forfeit for not having enough girls. DTOB has escaped forfeit 3 or 4 times this season but they have not let their low numbers hurt them in the standings as they have lost only 1 game this season. This week was no different as they beat Id Hit It Again 2-1. The real highlight of the game though came after the score was settled as BJ gave his team a rousing pep talk to his team about the importance of winning next week. I don't remember much about it because I have a short attention span and the speech was way too long for it's own good. If it was a movie you would probably ask for your money back. We will see if it works next week or if Id Hit It Again will be asking for their money back.

Balls N Dolls beat BA-52's 9-0. Are you surprised? Shaina reported that she was twice as ashamed as last week. If you remember, Shaina was ashamed this week for bunting and making it to first. This week she bunted and didn't even make it on base. For Shame!

Last but not least, in the battle of teams with the longest names. Also Available in Sober faced off against Anything But Blue Balls. AAIS is probably the most inconsistent team in the division. Their defense can leak like cheesecloth or be absolutely outstanding. Their offense however struggles and have had somehow won 3 games with only scoring 7 runs on the season. This week they won 2-0.

How awesome is Amanda from Quit Yer Pitchin?
