Playoffs!

Hello Big Guava Kickballers!!!

First off let’s give a big Congrats to Off Constantly for winning the Regular Season Championship! I have a trophy waiting for you guys on the fields. I will need a group photo, so make sure you look pretty!!!

Secondly… Some good info on the upcoming playoffs: At 1000am, you can begin to arrive for the tailgate! Each Team can set up one tailgate tent (the tents ARE considered part of the parking lot). Please pack them with Coolers, BBQ Grill, Food for BBQ, Chairs, tables, corn-hole, Sunscreen etc… and feel free to share with your division rep!! ;) And again… NO GLASS!!! You know who you are... Don’t do it!!!!

Well behaved children and friends are always welcome, however pets are still not allowed… Yes, I know most pets are better behaved than most children, but PAL still says Nope!

OK.. Here is how the day goes…
The official tournament teams will be setting up on Field 1 and 2 (the only fields we have played on so far). We will also be having an optional third place tournament on field three! This game will be the “fun” game as we allow all sorts of fun rules as long as the two captains agree. For example, option to Slip-n-slide to home plate for 2 points rather than the traditional run to home for 1. Water balloon bombs allowed to be thrown at base fielding players from the sidelines. Dizzy bat prior to the first pitch… and the list can go on. Please comment at the bottom of this post if you have any of the items and can bring them (Slip-N-Slide, water balloons, bats…) although these games are enticing to all, you will still need to have experienced refs for the remaining official games.

The tournament Schedule is posted on the webpage. Here is how the refereeing will work. And do know that failing to have a ref at the game will forfeit your team for the tournament!!!!

CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND: 220PM
The two losing teams Captains and two other experienced players will ref for the Championship round.
For the official games... Please read the official WAKA tournament rules below:

All teams must be ready to play 10 minutes prior to game time for check in ( Find Me to Check IN – I will have the Crystal Pitcher Ballots there as well – For more info on the Crystal Pitcher see other BLOG post). There will be roster checks. All players must have proper ID and must they be on the team’s official WAKA roster. Captains are required to have the current rosters available. Illegal players attempting to or playing will result in an automatic forfeit of your game and the captain will lose the right to pick or captain a team in the future.

If at scheduled game time a team is not ready to play, that team will lose 1 inning of kicking for every 5 minutes they are not ready. At 15 minutes past the "scheduled" start time they are not ready, the game is a forfeit.

If both teams are not ready the same rules apply.

Teams must have at least 4 male and 4 female eligible players to play. Deal making between teams is prohibited. If you do not have enough registered players as per the policy above, the game is a forfeit. Note - Eligible players must have team shirts and not be injured, i.e. no casts etc.

Game length is 5 innings.

At any point after 3 innings a team is winning by 12 or more runs, the game will immediately end and is considered final.

Per WAKA Tournament Rule 10:03 - Any runner off base when the ball is kicked with 2 outs will be out and the next kicker in the lineup will start the next inning.

WAKA WILL NOT TOLERATE ANY UNSPORTSMANLIKE-LIKE CONDUCT – YOU WILL BE SUSPENDED FROM THE REMAINDER OF THE TOURNAMENT & MAY NOT BE ALLOWED TO REGISTER FOR A FUTURE SEASON!

If your team or guests violate the division beverage rules, your game will be an automatic forfeit!

Tie break format for rounds 1 & 2:

Each team will designate 1 kicker Each kicker will get 1 practice kick The higher ranked team will choose if they want to kick first or 2nd.

The ball will be placed on home plate. The kicker will kick it towards 2nd base. Who’s ever ball ends up closest to 2nd base wins the game (the ball can go past 2nd)

Tie break format for round 3(semi finals) & round 4(finals):

If the game is tied after regulation innings, up to 2 extra innings of Kansas City style will be played.

Place the last kicker from the previous inning on 2nd base

The fielding team will place 4 males and 4 females only on the field.

If still tied after 2 extra innings (current inning will be allowed to complete) the accuracy kick will be used to determine the winner.

That was a lot to digest, but I will have a copy of the rules on the field as well as official scorecards.

Please feel free to comment with any questions or concerns or if ya just want to talk/vent/share your knowledge :)

~See you all on Sat!!!
