Lecture Time

Ok children, don't forget to take notes here. We had a bit of trouble with reffing assignments tonight. Erik sent something out to the captains the other day but its probably worth sharing how it works with everyone.

If you play at 7pm, your team is responsible for providing 3 refs for the 8pm games. Two on the field you are playing and 1 for field 3.

If you play at 8pm, your team is responsible for providing 2 refs for the 7pm game on the same field you play on. Since there is no 7pm game on field 3, you do not need to provide refs if your team is scheduled to play on field 3 at 8pm.

If your team fails to provide refs, your team can incur a paper forfeit. That means all of your game decisions count but you will lose .75 points in the standings. Not good, especially since if your team has 3 or more forfeits of any kind, your team isn't allowed to play in the playoffs.

Every team has a couple of people who are good candidates to ref and probably a few that aren't. In any game that is between competitive teams, try to get your best refs to volunteer. The Seminoles are relentless on refs that don't know what they are doing or aren't paying attention.

Refs should be paying attention to the game, including the inning count and score. The good news is that the iphone and the Android phones both have kickball referee apps that you can download to help you keep track.

If you aren't familiar with the rules, they are easy to find at www.kickball.com/rules. Every team should print at least one copy and keep it on the sidelines for quick reference during games.

Ok, lecture over. Don't worry, the fun stuff is coming soon.
