Week 8 Predictions

Drunk Again and Scoring vs Great Balls of Fire: This game is sure to be a blinding see of orange and hopefully some people will still have retinas after this one. These 2 teams are very evenly matched. Both have one 2 games, both have a run differential -3 and their runs scored and runs against averages are nearly identical. The last time we had a battle of the basement dwellers, Jamestown was able to carry the momentum from their win to climb the standings. Prediction: Drunk Again and Scoring 4 - Great Balls of Fire 2.

Seminoles vs ShinKickers: The Seminoles may be having their best season to date so far as their opening day loss to the Ballers is still their only loss on the season. Meanwhile the rookie ShinKickers have had some struggles in their first season but have been able to keep it close in most games. Prediction: Seminoles 3 - ShinKickers 3

I'd Hit It vs Jamestown: I'd Hit It has trouble scoring (that's what she said); Jamestown has trouble on defense (that's what... huh?). The trouble for both teams this season has been consistency but Jamestown has been rolling lately. Look for the upset here. Prediction: Jamestown 3 - I'd Hit It 1

Quit Yer Pitching vs Smack My Pitch Up: This game may be an odd one for Ty to play in. Including the current seasons, he has played 9 seasons total, 7 of them on a Navy Blue team. It will be interesting to see if Ty gets confused as to what team he is on. He might even bring one of his Navy Blue WAKA shirts and change teams halfway through the game. Prediction: ***censored by Courtney on Quit Yer Pitchin***

Ballers vs Don't Touch My Balls: What has not already been said about Don't Touch My Balls? Have they ever actually lost a game (not counting forfeits)? We all hope to see an epic showdown of female chuggers with the vivacious Samantha taking on the amazingly talented Molly. Prediction: Don't Touch My Balls 7 - Ballers 4

MacDinton's Predictions for MacDinton's after the game: Ballers will have at least a half dozen players there. ShinKickers and Quit Yer Pitchin will battle it out at flip cup. Members of Smack My Pitch Up, Drunk Again and Scoring, I'd Hit It and maybe even Don't Touch My Balls will do amazing renditions of your favorite songs on karaoke. Jamestown will hold a team meeting in the corner. Great Balls of Fire will cut it up on the dance floor and the Seminoles will be largely MIA.

Playoff Date Changed

Our Playoff Tournament will now be be held on Sunday Oct 19th. Gates will open at 10am with the first round of games beginning at 11am. It will be a single elimination tournament. This tends to be a lot of fun and each team is encouranged to bring a tent or some sort of shade, plenty of sunscreen, plenty of hydration and a grill since this usually ends up being a big kickball tailgating party.

Pub Crawl with Bayshore Division

There will be a Pub Crawl on Saturday, October 11th for members of both the Bayshore and Breaker divisions. The pub crawl will be in St Pete. This pub crawl will be raising money for the Christine Hodill Scholarship Fund through PAL of Tampa. Be sure to go to www.kickball.com/mywaka to log in and click the link to print your Player Card to prove that you are a registered member.

When: Saturday, October 11th

How Much: $10 for WAKA members and $15 for non members

Where: Registration from 6-7pm at Midtown Sundries 200 1st Ave S, St Pete
8-9pm Independent
9-10pm Mastry's
10-11pm Vintage
11-12pm Bishops

More details will follow. Your division board is also currently planning your end of season party.

Dale, Behind the Kickball

As many of you have come to realize, Dale from the Seminoles, has assumed the role of Division Villain. Why not? Every division has to have one and Dale is certainly competitive. For the most part, Dale takes it all in stride and finds it funny but those who know him best feel that he is sometimes unfairly demonized. So lets take a moment to get to know the real Dale. The Dale behind the kickball.

Dale is actually quite nice, in fact, what most people don't realize is that his favorite thing to do in his free time is to rescue stray puppies, train them and give them as gifts to poor orphan children with terminal illnesses. When he's not practicing his pitching skills, he can often be seen hanging out at busy intersections assisting old ladies in walkers cross the street.

At a young age, Dales ability to prolong a game of kickball were quite obvious. In only his first kickball game ever in the first grade he took so much time in between pitches that his game only got into the 2nd inning before recess was over.

"It was clear that Dale had a special gift to waste time and prolong anything he did. It's obvious that his calling was not to become a doctor and cure cancer. His research would have taken too long, but that's alright because he found other ways to help humanity. Dale is a great guy" stated former 2nd grade teammate, Heidi Clare.

Dale can often be seen teaching illiterate children to read, rescuing trapped kittens from trees, and collecting food supplies to ship to starving people in third world countries. Rumor has it that he also likes long walks on the beach, candle lit dinners and likes to cry while reading romance novels.

You can't judge a book by it's cover so before you automatically assume Dale is a bad guy, you might want to delve a little deeper. You might be surprised. Then again, you might not, there is that Pyongyang incident from last season.

Clown Theme

This past week, members from I'd Hit It came up with the pajama party theme that they invited everyone in the division to participate in. At MacDinton's last night the possibility of another theme for next week game up. I'd Hit it is now hoping to have a clown theme for Week 8. I appologize in advance to anyone who is afraid of clowns.

Ty's Predictions Fall Short

Tampa, FL - It was confirmed last night that WAKA Rep, Ty, has no idea what he is talking about when it comes to predicting the outcome of games. Not one of his week 7 predictions came even close to reality. Lets break down this debacle of an attempt at fortune telling.

Smack My Pitch Up vs Jamestown: Prediction: Smack My Pitch Up 4-2. Actual Result: Jamestown 8-2. What a disaster of a pick. Jamestown had their best game all season while Smack My Pitch Up continued their slide in the standings. After starting the season 3-0, Smack My Pitch Up has since gone on a 4 game slide and are dropping in the standings like a lead balloon.

Don't Touch My Balls vs ShinKickers: Prediction: Don't Touch My Balls 5378 - 2. Actual Result: Don't Touch My Balls 3-2. Strangely enough, this was the most accurate pick though there was clearly a 5375 run overestimate. At least the ShinKicker score was correct.

Seminoles vs I'd Hit It: Prediction: I'd Hit it 5-4. Actual Result: Tie 1-1. A defensive show down in the longest 1-1 game ever in the history of kickball. This game was just barely allowed to have last inning played as the 5th inning began at 8:57pm. If it had started just 3 minutes later the game would have been called for going to long after 4 innings. Eric (or is it Erik?) kicked the longest triple ever as the ball made it from Field A all the way to first base on field B. He celebrated his moonshot with an interesting karaoke performance of an Ike and Tina song sith Stacey at MacDinton's after the game.

Ballers vs Great Balls of Fire: Prediction: Great Balls of Fire 11 people at the bar / Ballers 0 people at the Bar. Actual Result: Ballers 5-4 with about 7 Ballers at the bar and only about 5ish Great Balls of Fire at the bar. No prediction was made on the actual game result, which is good because it probably would have been wrong anyways. The Ballers impressed with their bar attendance last night, especially with Kim and Meredith doing an amazing rendition of Baby Got Back on the stage.

Quit Yer Pitchin vs Drunk Again and Scoring: Prediction: Quit Yer Pitchin -2 to -7. Actual Result: Drunk Again and Scoring 9-3. Also predicted was that Quit Yer Pitchin had the defensive advantage, that was also proven wrong as Drunk Again and Scoring scored more runs (9) last night than their first 6 games combined (6). I was asked by Courtney on Quit Yer Pitchin to never make a prediction again with her team winning since every time I do they lose.

Week 7 Results (Sep 23)

Jamestown 2 / Smack My Pitch Up 2
Don't Touch My Balls 3 / ShinKickers 2
Seminoles 1 / I'd Hit It 1
Ballers 5 / Great Balls of Fire 4
Drunk Again And Scoring 9 / Quit Yer Pitchin 3

Crystal Pitcher

This is as good a time as any to update some of the new players on one of our division traditions, the Crystal Pitcher. Whoever said that kickball wasn't a popularity contest was wrong, it is.

The Crystal Pitcher Award is awarded to the team that is most popular as voted on by players in the division. All votes are cast at the end of season tournament with each player being allowed 1 vote. Players may not vote for their own team.

The Crystal Pitcher winner should be the team that is the most fun, most spirited and most sportsmanlike. Last season, Drunk Again and Looking to Score (now Drunk Again and Scoring) was narrowly defeated by the now defunct C U Next Tuesday team. This year there could be several contenders with Drunk Again and Scoring and Smack My Pitch Up being the favorites. The new teams of I'd Hit it and Quit Yer Pitchin may also be in the running. Can the Seminoles overcome tremendous odds and pull off the upset? No team that munts has ever won the Crystal Pitcher but only time will tell.

Start thinking now about what team you think deserves the Crystal Pitcher. The polls for Crystal Pitcher on this blog are not binding, they are just for fun and have a margin of error of about +/-100%

Week 7 Preview

It's hard to imagine that we are already this far into the season. Of course if you played in some other league this would be the last week of the season but that's not how we roll with WAKA here in Tampa. This week offers some interesting matchups.

Smack My Pitch Up vs Jamestown: This game is a matchup of the team Ty is currently on vs the team Ty was on last season. Jamestown has really struggled this season but were victorious in the Battle of the Basement Dwellers last week. Meanwhile, Smack My Pitch Up has been on a bit of a decline in the last 2 weeks after losing a close one to don't Touch My Balls and getting schelacked against the Seminoles. Don't expect anyone to wear a football helmet this week.
Prediction: Smack My Pitch Up 4 / Jamestown 2

Don't Touch My Balls vs Shinkickers: Last week I said that Don't Touch My Balls couldn't crush opponents like they used to. Then they came out and crushed I'd Hit it 10-4. Look for the Shinkickers to struggle in this one.
Prediction: Don't Touch My Balls 5378 / ShinKickers 2.

Seminoles vs I'd Hit It: The Seminoles have quite a few votes in the poll of who's the favorite to win the Crystal Pitcher this season. They might have a hard time convincing anyone who is not on their team of that, especially when this week they have to go through the underdog favorite for the coveted award. Expect the Seminoles to be modest and well behaved as always.
Prediction: I'd Hit It 5 / Seminoles 4.

Ballers vs Great Balls of Fire: This could be the most interesting game of the week as both teams are pretty evenly matched in their kickball ability. The biggest problem for the Ballers this season has been their dismal showing at the bar.
Prediction: Great Balls of Fire 11 people at the bar / Ballers 0 people at the bar.

Quit Yer Pitchin vs Drunk Again and Scoring: Despite the name change in the off season from Drunk Again and LOOKING to Score to Drunk Again and Scoring, it really hasn't helped the team in orange on offense as they still seem to me looking to score more often than not. This game is a battle between the two worst offenses in the division but with Quit Yer Pitchin having the advantage on defense. This could be the first game ever with negative runs scored. I am not quite sure how that would happen but I just think it might between these two teams. Regardless of the score, look for Wes and Mike to Rock the Mic at MacDinton's after the game.
Prediction: Quit Yer Pitching -2 / Drunk Again and NOT Scoring -7.

WAKA Kickball on Best Damn Sports Show Period

This is just a teaser but WAKA Kickball will be featured on the Best Damn Sports Show Period next Friday, September 26th on Fox networks accross the country. A celebrity Best Damn team faces the Valley Girls from the CA Studio Division. A few on the celebrity team were Chrise Rose, John Salley, Amanda Beard, Alfonso Riberio (Carlton from Fresh Prince of Bel-Air) and others. I am told that they also had a midget catcher. Be sure to catch the Sep 26th airing of Best Damn Sports Show Period.

Dale Forgot To Give This Article A Title

Nice try Ty, But first things first.......... SCOREBOARD!
The Seminoles kicked your ass so bad we made it apparent why we are and for ever will be the #1 party school.
Your tailgating skills encompass all of the eating but none of the essential drinking that makes a real tailgate. As evidenced by Jen and myself owning the tandem chug BEAT-DOWN. As a matter of fact, I can remember checking my watch between gulps. Next time I will be happy to have two of my awesome girls against two of your weak ass dudes.
I agree with you on being impressed by the sight of your tailgate. Mostly for the fact that your players can eat so damn much. I mean here I am recruiting HOT ATHLETIC women when I could be recruiting the future rivals of Kobeashi.
There was no amount of creative rule-book interpretation that could get you out of this one.
The Seminoles are back and poised to take home another championship.
Have fun wearing the headdress next week.

Wes and Mike Rock the Mic Again!

Playoffs Date

The playoffs are currently scheduled for Saturday Oct 25th, however several people have indicated that that date is very inconvenient for a few people. I have added a new poll to the right to help guage how people feel about it. IF POSSIBLE, pending field availability would you prefer to move the date of the playoffs to Sunday Oct 19th? Please vote in the poll and post your comments in response to this post.

Pajama Party

I'd Hit It is planning on having a Pajama Party at next week's game and is hoping that everyone else in the division will join in. I'd Hit It would like everyone to come wearing what you usually wear to bed (plus your WAKA kickball t-shirt of course) to the fields to play kickball in. It raises the interesting and possibly either exciting or disturbing question: What if you like to sleep in the nude?

Extra kudos will definitely be given to anyone who shows up in pink bunny pajamas, however, it wouldn't be the first time that someone wore that to kickball. In fact it has been done several times.

Quit Yer Pitchin Increases Bar Turnout

After some dissapointing showings at MacDinton's after the games, Quit Yer Pitchin has really started to show up in increasing numbers at our sponsor bar. Several players in Navy Blue t-shirts were seen last night socializing and playing flip cup. It's certainly a proud moment for the new team.

Quit Yer Pitchin suffered it's first loss of the season last night against Great Balls of Fire, who are now on a 2 game winning streak. Even with that loss, they are having an impressive first season with a record of 3-1-2.

I asked them last night what the secret to their success is and they told me that it's because they have lots of sexy ladies on the team who are looking for action (or something to that effect). I was told that another key to their success is their incredibly talented first base coach, though with the second lowest scoring total in the division this season, perhaps they should move her to 3rd.

Drunk Again and Scoring and Smack My Pitch Up dominated the bar turnout once again but suspiciously absent were any gray Ballers t-shirts at all. They are sure to hear lots of boos from the rest of the division at the games next week.

Gators Victorious

Tampa, FL - Gator alum, fans and friends were victorious last night against the Seminoles. Smack My Pitch Up proved too much for the Seminoles to compete with in Tailgating and afterpartying. As Dale drove up in his new garnet colored car that he bought just for the anticipated rivalry game, it was clear by the look in his eyes that he was completely intimidated by the impressive site of Smack My Pitch Up's tailgating party, complete with 2 grills, ladder ball, multiple tables and coolers of consumables and tons of random Gator paraphenalia lying around.

"I didn't know what to do, man. I felt like running away and crying." Dale was quoted as saying before leaving the fields, crying.

Later on, at MacDinton's it was the same story as Smack My Pitch Up came out in force and the Seminoles could only muster a few brave souls to go to the bar. It was clearly a dominant performance by the team dressed in orange and blue.

There was also this kickball game thing that was played between the 2 teams that the Seminoles won 7-2. It was a man-bunting (munting) extravaganza by the Seminoles and Smack My Pitch Up learned that it's not the best idea to play kickball with a football helmet on. Due to the Seminoles' win last night, Ty will have to wear a FSU hat for next week's game.

There is no doubt that the box score for last nights game will fade into the foggy past of kickball history but the spirit of the incredible tailgating and afterpartying by Smack My Pitch Up will live on forever.

Final results for Poll

Voting closed last night for the "Do You Read The Blog Poll" and the final results are in. Smack My Pitch Up had the most readers to the blog with 20 (there are 21 people on the team so who is the one jerk that doesn't read the blog?). Quit Yer Pitchin also had a strong showing but it will be Smack My Pitch Up that will soon be getting an incredible write up about how awesome they are.

Meanwhile I'd Hit It only had one reader so they will be getting a write up about how despicable they are. Be sure to check back later in the week to see the write ups once I get the creative thought processes moving in my head (you can't rush greatness).

Here are the results:
Smack My Pitch Up 20
Quit Yer Pitchin 11
Seminoles 8
Great Balls of Fire 7
Ballers 6
Drunk Again And Scoring 5
Don't Touch Our Balls 2
Jamestown 2
I'd Hit It 1

Week 6 Results (Sep 16)

Ballers 5 Shinkickers 2
Great Balls of Fire 3 Quit Yer Pitchin 2
Don't Touch My Balls 10 I'd Hit It 4
Jamestown 2 Drunk Again And Scoring 1
Seminoles 7 Smack My Pitch Up 2

Division Facebook Group

Jimmy Falcon on Drunk Again And Scoring was nice enough to create a group for us on Facebook. If you want to join just go to www.facebook.com and do a search for Breaker Kickball. We hope to see you all there.

Do you read the blog?

Veterans from last season know this drill. I'm trying to figure out which teams actually take the time to read this silly blog by putting up a poll. It's quite easy, just look for the corresponding poll on the right hand column and vote for your team name. The poll will be open until the week 6 games begin. The team with the most votes will get a sparkling post about how great their team is. The team with the least amount of votes will get a write up about how evil and disgusting they are.

You can find the posts about the winners and losers from last season by going here: http://flbreaker.blogspot.com/2008/03/dont-touch-my-balls-gets-support-from.html and here: http://flbreaker.blogspot.com/2008/03/drunk-again-and-looking-to-score-scores.html.

Calling All Gators/'Noles; Week 6 Preview

Week 6 looks to be an intense one in the Breaker division as teams have started creating an indentity for themselves this season. The most anticipated match up may be between the Seminoles and Smack My Pitch Up. Since Smack My Pitch up is comprised mostly of Gators and their color is Gator blue they have decided to add in a little Orange when they face off against the Seminoles. It will be Orange and Blue vs Garnett and Gold mayem as both teams are expected to tailgate before the game. Any player who went to either school is invited to watch the matchup at 8pm on Field C, if they don't have a game at that time, to cheer on the representatives for your alma mater.

While that game should be a lot of fun, there will be plenty of other excitement in week 6 as these other games will also be played:

ShinKickers vs Ballers (7pm on field A): The new Shinkickers team squares off against the latest incarnation of the Ballers. A few seasons ago the Ballers were the top team in the division but left and are now back with a new look all together. In fact the Shinkickers look a lot more like the old Ballers with their light blue t-shirts. This should be an evenly matched game.

Great Balls of Fire vs Quit Yer Pitchin (7pm on field B): This game between 2 rookie teams may look like a mismatch if you compare overall records but Great Balls of Fire are coming off an impressive win. Quit Yer Pitchin's key so far this season has been defense while their offense has struggled to put many points on the board. Look for this one to be a low scoring affair.

I'd Hit It vs Don't Touch My Balls (8pm on field A): Don't Touch My Balls is historically a dominant team in the division, however this season, either the competition has gotten better or they have lost a bit of an edge. Although they are still strong and in first place, they haven't been able to consistently crush opponents like they have in seasons past. Can I'd Hit It step up and pull off the upset? The real story here will be which team can do better drunken karaoke at MacDinton's after the game.

Jamestown vs Drunk Again and Scoring (8pm on field B): This is surprisingly a battle of the basement dwellers this season. Don't expect it to be a boring game though as Drunk Again And Scoring is a second half team and Jamestown is almost guaranteed to get better. Drunk Again And Scoring has the worst offense in the division while Jamestown has the worst defense so something has got to give in this matchup. At least you can be sure that both teams will have plenty of representatives at MacDinton's after the game.

Great Balls of Fire Ignite on Offense

Tampa, Fl - After struggling for most of the young season to put any runs up on the board, Great Balls of Fire were able to more than double their offensive output for the season last night as they defeated Jamestown 5-2. In the young team's first 4 games they were only able to score a total of 4 runs. That scoring drought was ended quickly when Great Balls of Fire matched their previous offensive output in just the first inning by posting a 4-spot. That was more than enough to conquer the struggling Jamestown but added some insurance later in the game.

We asked team captain, Shelley, to talk about her team's secret to success this week. "Well I was talking to my good friend Jacques the other day and he told me that the secret to winning is compression shorts. He said that if the boys are nice and snug and secure it can only help on-field performance. After hearing that I decided to institute a 'No Commando' policy for this week. At first, some of the guys were really upset by the new policy but in the end, everyone did what was best for the team. It clearly helped in our victory. Thank you for the advice Mr. Strapp!"

Visible in the stands was number one Great Balls of Fire fan Pete Schweddy of Schweddy Balls and Schweddy Weiner fame. "I really love to come out and see my 'Balls'. They really exploded today and sqeezed out as much as they could. They had had some problems with disfuntion earlier in the season but now I'm glad to see their performance improve. Their victory today gave new meaning to Great Balls of Fire."

Wes + Mike = Digital Underground

Tampa, FL - Those who stuck around late last night at MacDinton's were witness to one of the greatest performances ever in the history of karaoke as Wes and Mike from Drunk Again And Scoring did an amazing rendition of "The Humpty Dance". The crowd was in desperate need of a knock out performance after the DJ had botched their earlier song by giving them the wrong song to sing. Fans of Wes and Mike were hungry for their heroes to take the stage again after suffering through some interesting drunken renditions of songs by I'd Hit It. The crowd went wild as Wes and Mike took the stage once more. Wes did his best Shock G impression as Mike seemed to be summoning the spirit of a young Tupac Shakur with his dancing and backup vocals.

Wes's act was so incredible that he only limited himself to half of the lyrics and made up some of his own, knowing that giving the crowd the whole song would certainly set off riots of mass hysteria from the sheer excitement of their brilliant performance. At one point, Wes could see the rambunctious crowd grow with excitement and for safety reasons decided to walk off stage.

"The crowd was pretty pumped up by my performance. I'm pretty sure that if I had continued the whole house would have come down. I'd hate to see that happen and have no where to drink after kickball games so I decided it was best to just end it and not jeopardize the safety of everyone there" stated Wes.

"Uh!... Yeah Yeah!... What?" stated Mike.

This was just the latest in an incredible string of outstanding performances by the dynamic duo. Be sure to catch them next week after the kickball games where team Smack My Pitch Up also hopes to do an entire team performance of "Smack My Bitch Up" by Prodigy (if the DJ can find the song). You can only catch that sort of excitement at MacDinton's after the games.

Power Outage in Week 4

There was a power outage at the PAL fields last week and it had nothing to do with Biard turning off the lights. Our week 4 action lacked any offensive pop at all. Defense was definitely on the menu. The most total runs scored in any one game was 4 in the 3-1 game between the Shinkickers and Smack My Pitch Up where Ty (that’s me), redefined the role of an outfielder by covering a bunt from his left field position.

There were only a total of 13 runs scored last week. By comparison, there were 35 scored in Week 3 and 29 scored in Week 1. We will be playing Week 2 games tonight to make up for our rainout date and tomorrow we play our regularly scheduled Week 5 games.

Save the Date, Playoffs

The Playoff tournament will be on Saturday Oct 25th with the first game starting at 11am. We can start arriving to set up tents, grills and whatever at 10am. The playoffs are a single elimination tournament that tends to resemble a kickball tailgaiting party.
