Week 4 Chuck Norris Awards
Who was your team's Chuck Norris MVP this week? Did you have anyone who was able to count to infinity twice this week? Did you have a player who could kill two stones with one bird? We want to hear about it. Make sure to nominate your Chuck Norris MVPs by commenting to this post.
Week 4 Recap
This week 7's and 2's seemed to be the popular amount of runs to score. We saw a ton of good kickball and maybe even more bad kickball but all in all the season is really coming together well. Lets take a look at this week's action.
Smack My Pitch up had a hard time getting players out to the fields. Despite having one of the largest rosters in the division they could only muster 4 guys and 6 girls. Fortunately, that's all it took. With only 10 players Smack My Pitchup decided to step up the intensity in aggressive baserunning, that isn't necessarily to say smart baserunning. SMPU played with style with Dan kicking the ball like a ballerina and Smack My Pitch Up hit up I'd Hit It Again for 7 runs while only giving up one baserunner on defense. Final score: 7-0
All Banged Up were victorious this week. Not in the game, their defense leaked like a sieve. But they were victorious in scoring their first run of the season. Congratulations All Banged Up for losing to Quit Yer Pitchin by a score of 7-1.
Balls N Dolls are continuing to show that they are a force to be reckoned with this season but they had a tough challenge against Saved By The Ball this week. It was a tight game with Balls N Dolls just narrowly winning by a score of 3-2.
The BA-52's are named after the form that is needed to get someone committed for being crazy in the state of Florida. We might have to fill a few of those out for the BA-52 team. Apparently for the second straight week in a row they have decided not to force the other team to forfeit when their opponents failed to have enough players and instead allowed them to pick up players and play. Also Available In Sober picked up Cindy and Laura "The Brick Wall Defensive Star" Post from SMPU and beat the BA-52's 2-0.
Surprise surprise, Don't Touch Our Balls won again. This time against the Seminoles who seemed to be quite a bit inebriated thanks to St Patrick's Day and 2, count 'em 2 Seminole birthdays, Dale and Begy. I was promised a cool quote from Don't Touch Our Balls but no one could seem to come up with one.
Finally, Suck My Kick and Anything But Blue Balls faced off in a high scoring matchup. As I am told, ABBB was mounting a late inning rally in the 5th inning and had the bases loaded with 2 outs. The ball was kicked up the middle and in a controversial call the baserunner on second base was called out for being struck by a kicked ball. Suck My Kick was victorious 7-5.
So we have 2 undefeated teams (Balls N Dolls and Don't Touch Our Balls) who have had a relatively easy go of it so far this season. Since we have a 12 team division and a 10 week season, every team plays every other team except for one. In a strange twist of fate those 2 teams DO NOT face each other in the regular season. If each team is able to continue their winning ways the battle for regular season champions may come down to the Runs Against tie breaker. (Tie breaker goes head to head, then total wins, then runs against). Will it come down to that or will some other teams be able to upset the kickball juggernauts?
Which of these top teams is most likely to be regular season champions?

Shamrocks And Shenanigans
Week 4 falls on St Patrick's day which means that's the biggest day of the year for MacDintons so after Kickball players will have 2 choices. You can either go to MacDinton's and get in with no cover by wearing your WAKA t-shirt and join the green crowd or you can go accross the street to Cork and enjoy flip cup and karaoke over there and get a 20% discount. Before you ask, yes, Cork does sell beer.
Where will you be going after Kickball on St Patrick's Day?

Week 3 Recap
We have now completed 3 weeks of play and we are starting to get a very good idea of how the division is shaping up.
All Banged Up faced off against Saved By The Ball in a game that likely had the most memorable moment of the week. A girl on Saved By The Ball bunted and was running down the baseline when she tripped and fell and just layed there like a slug. Meanwhile, Tim from All Banged Up fielded the ball and leaped in the air doing his best King Leonidis impersonation from the movie 300 and pegged the girl square in the back. Rumors that Tim was yelling, "Tonight we dine in Hell!" as he made the play could not be confirmed. Ultimately, however, much like Tim's hero at the battle of Thermopylae (spoiler alert), All Banged Up was defeated in the end by the score of 4-0.
Quit Yer Pitching showed that they know how to score this week and just dominated Also Available in Sober by the score of 6-0. Tony from Quit Yer Pitching kicked one of the most impressive home runs ever on a kickball field when he blasted a ball from field B into the infield of Field A.
The faceoff between two of the most fun teams in the division ended up with a fairly boring final score as Id Hit It Again just narrowly defeated Anything But Blue Balls. As much as the light blue team is fun to hang out with, they have had a hard time since their week 1 tie with the Seminoles. They sure do practice alot though.
Don't Touch Our Balls beat BA-52's 5 to 1. Yawn. It's not really news anymore to report that Don't Touch Our Balls won... or that BA-52's lost.
We had 2 battles of the undefeated this week and both of them turned into blowouts.
Apparantly, field B was blowout city this week as the Seminoles crushed Suck My Kick 7-0 on the same field as Quit Yer Pitching beat up on Also Available in Sober.
The late game on Field C promissed to be a good game between Smack My Pitch Up and Balls N Dolls but sometimes promisses aren't kept. Before the game Smack My Pitch Up captain, Natalie, gave the team a pep talk. "Ok Guys, we haven't given up a run yet this season and I don't think that's very nice so lets go out there and give up some runs. Kevin, I especially want you to make a really awful play that will result in runs scored for the other team." Apparantly the team was listening because that's exactly what they did. Going into the 5th inning Balls N Dolls were up 7-0. Smack was able to mount a small rally with back to back triples by Lisa and Ty but it wasn't enough as the final score was 7-4.
In related news, Ty collided with a first baseman as he rounded first on a kick for the second week in a row. In case anyone hasn't noticed, Ty (that's me) is a big boy who can actually run fairly well for a big guy. Freight trains are pretty hard to stop so if you are playing the field anywhere near a basepath and Ty is up, you might want to step aside. Ty's new theme music as he steps to the plate will be "Move Bitch get out da way!".
In case you haven't seen today's cover story in the TBT or Daniel Ruth's Column in the Tampa Tribune, bestiality is apparantly still legal in the state of Florida. That's pretty disturbing and has absolutely nothing to do with our kickball division (at least I certainly hope not) but in a wierd way it's sort of funny. Did no one actually think about this before now?

This Week's Chuck Norris Awards
This week we will be renaming our MVP awards the Chuck Norris awards because we played kickball on Chuck Norris's 69th Birthday. So who was your team's Chuck Norris this week? While you are at it, post your favorite Chuck Norris joke.
Dale, Behind the Kickball (Redux)
This is actually a re-post from last season but its a good one so its back in honor of Dale's Birthday next week. Happy Birthday Dale!
As many of you have come to realize, Dale from the Seminoles, has assumed the role of Division Villain. Why not? Every division has to have one and Dale is certainly competitive. For the most part, Dale takes it all in stride and finds it funny but those who know him best feel that he is sometimes unfairly demonized. So lets take a moment to get to know the real Dale. The Dale behind the kickball.
Dale is actually quite nice, in fact, what most people don't realize is that his favorite thing to do in his free time is to rescue stray puppies, train them and give them as gifts to poor orphan children with terminal illnesses. When he's not practicing his pitching skills, he can often be seen hanging out at busy intersections assisting old ladies in walkers cross the street.
At a young age, Dales ability to prolong a game of kickball were quite obvious. In only his first kickball game ever in the first grade he took so much time in between pitches that his game only got into the 2nd inning before recess was over.
"It was clear that Dale had a special gift to waste time and prolong anything he did. It's obvious that his calling was not to become a doctor and cure cancer. His research would have taken too long, but that's alright because he found other ways to help humanity. Dale is a great guy" stated former 2nd grade teammate, Heidi Clare.
Dale can often be seen teaching illiterate children to read, rescuing trapped kittens from trees, and collecting food supplies to ship to starving people in third world countries. Rumor has it that he also likes long walks on the beach, candle lit dinners and likes to cry while reading romance novels.
You can't judge a book by it's cover so before you automatically assume Dale is a bad guy, you might want to delve a little deeper. You might be surprised. Then again, you might not, there is that Pyongyang incident from last season.

Don't Let This Happen To You!
There is some road construction going on just before the PAL fields on Diana St. The city is replacing a water main and we can not get to the fields by using Diana St.
When going to the kickball fields, turn onto W North St from Rome and then turn right on N Packwood Ave and just head straight to the fields. You should be able to see signs that will help direct you.
DO NOT try to use the grassy area between Diana and North St as a cut through. There is a ditch at the end of that property and your vehicle could get stuck

The No Bunting 10 Commandments
The Ten Commandments of Nobunting.com
I. Thou shalt keep the ‘kick’ in kickball
II. Thou shalt not make unto thyself any graven image of a kickball player who bunts, a player of foursquare or likewise a player of tiddlywinks. Thou art a kickball player and a person therewith. Speaketh not in tones of political correctness, but, rather, let thy voice be forthright. Let thy communication be “Kick it!” or “Bunting is for pussies!” and speaketh not the lukewarm utterances of the bunting class.
III. Thou shalt not take the name of thy coach in vain. Thou shalt obey him, and put his playing plan forth onto the field even in thy last innings.
IV. Remember the kickball day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou drink, and do all thy drunkenness in preparation for Tuesday: But the kickball day is for thy team, and thou shalt not cause thy team to be mocked by bunting but only by thy drunkenness and stupor.
V. Honour thy practice flip-cup sessions that thy days may be long upon the beers which thy kickball team giveth thee.
VI. Thou shalt not bunt. Behold, bunting is an abomination unto me, and maketh thy opponent’s head like unto spoiled fruit. This is not meet in mine eyes.
VII. Thou shalt not commit kickball whoredom, for, behold, whoring is an abomination unto me. Thou shalt retain thy love for kicking, not bunting, and not be given unto kickball whoredom like unto those of the bunting.
VIII. Thou shalt not pitch to bunters.
IX. Thou shalt not listen to referees that side with the bunting. When they asketh thee if thou hast sinned, thy answer shall be, “No, sir, for I do not bunt.”
X. Thou shalt not covet the victories of the bunting, for they are hardly victories at all, but only in a way that a losing match of tetherball is a victory for the ball.

No Glass on the Fields
Glass bottles are never allowed on the PAL fields. After last week's games some broken glass bottles were found on the field. That's obviously not a good thing. Anyone who brings glass bottles to kickball will not be allowed to play that week and their team will take a penalty forfeit in the standings.
Please help to enforce this rule and make sure that everyone knows that glass bottles are not allowed. You can view all of our field policies by going to our field policies page. Make sure you know what the rules are.

Week 2 Nominations
Ok everyone, who was your team's MVP this week? Did someone do something extrodinary in the field, on the flip cup table or on the karaoke stage? Write about it here in the comment section of this post to nominate your favorite players for MVP honors this week.
Our Charity - PAL Tampa
As a division we will do several fun things to try to help out our designated charity, the Police Athletic League of Tampa. So what is PAL? No, it's not sports league for police officers, it's about helping kids through sports programs and keeping them off the streets. You can learn more about them by going to their website. If you would like to do more to help PAL personally you can go to their ways to help page or just ask to speak to Phil at the concession stand on kickball nights.
Week 2 Results
Week 2 is now complete and we have already seen some very good kickball action so far from both veteran and new teams. Defense seems to be the name of the game so far this season. Either that or people haven't figured out how to kick the ball correctly yet.
Also Available in Sober and Saved By The Ball faced off in a game that had 2 veteran teams in new colors and with new names. I don't know much about what happened in this game. In fact I'm not even sure if I recorded the score correctly but I show it as 2-1 in favor of Also Available in Sober. Both teams made a strong showing at MacDinton's after the game and Wes and Mike did their thing on the karaoke stage.
Smack My Pitch Up had a hard time getting their guys to show up to the game last night and ended up only having 5 who made it to the game. They didn't let that stop them as they defeated Anything But Blue Balls 4-0. Some fool from Smack My Pitch Up kept sliding into bases, even when it wasn't necessary. Rumor has it that he is a little sore today. Anything But Blue Balls made an extremely impressive showing at MacDinton's as they had a small army of light blue shirts there.
Quite Yer Pitchin and Don't Touch Our Balls faced off in a game that is probably best described as Battle of the Nasties. A member of one team was quoted as saying, "wow those guys are bigger douchebags than we are". Come on guys, it's Kickball. It's all about taking it easy and having a good time. Don't Touch Our Balls ended up victorious by a 3-2 score.
Id Hit It Again may have picked the wrong night for their guys to wear dresses as they all seemed a little bit chilly last night. The Seminoles had an impressive 4-0 win. Less impressive was their attendance at MacDinton's after the game. Where they any gold t-shirts there at all?
The BA-52's had a very shaky first inning on defense and Suck My Kick was hoping to enforce the first mercy rule win in division history. Fortunately enough for the Texas Orange team, they were able to pull their defense together and hold Suck My Kick for the rest of the game. Unfortunately though, as the BA-52s know all too well, it only takes 2 and Suck My Kick was victorious 2-0.
Balls N Dolls showed that they are in it to win it this season and crushed All Banged Up 5-0. The bad news for Balls N Dolls is that they did all of their scoring in one inning but they want to be scoring all of the time. Meanwhile All Banged up has yet to score a run this season.
Overall it was a pretty impressive showing at MacDinton's after the games. It's becoming quite clear who the most fun and social teams are. Take a look at our new Poll asking which team (other than your own) is the most fun.

Week 1 Superlatives

Cindy from Smack My Pitch Up had a great idea of having superlatives each week. Just reply to this post to nominate your teammates or your whole team for a superlative and say why they deserve recognition. Before the next week of play I will do a post to award who I think deserves mention, based on your nominations.
So think about it. Who was the most clutch player? Who was the best chugger? Who was the best fielder? Who made the most boneheaded play? Just post a comment to this post and it will be reviewed and winners announced before the next week's games.
PAL Concession Stand
The Police Athletic League are hoping to raise money for their organization by running their concession stand during our kickball hours. The money raised from the stand goes towards helping families in their program who are struggling to make ends meet. The food is actually quite delicious too and very affordable. Make sure to grab a quick bite either before or after your game and support a great cause.

Id Hit It Again's Theme Game
For those of you who were in the division last season you know that Id Hit It Again (Lime green) loves to have some theme games. Last season they got dressed up as superheros, clowns, pajamas, whatever they could think of. This season they plan to do the same. In week 2 they will be doing a... well I'm not exactly sure what to call it but guys will dress up as girls and girls will dress up as guys. Id Hit It Again's captain, Erik is pretty excited about this and is really looking forward to the good ventilation that his dress will give him.
They would like to invite anyone else in the division to join them in this theme. Rumor has it that the guys on Balls N Dolls are quite excited to be able to use a theme as an excuse for their new bright pink t-shirts for at least one week.
Just remember, when you do a costume game you still need to incorporate your WAKA kickball t-shirt in whatever you are wearing.

Week 1 Starts off with a blast
Our Spring 2009 season has finally begun and what a fun night it was. There were a lot of new faces but the action was the same, FUN!
Also Available in Sober has a new name, a new name and a new look this season but unfortunately for them were not able to hold off the hot pink Balls N Dolls and lost 4-1.
The Seminoles have had to switch up their strategy this season with the changes in rules for pitching and no-munting and ended up tying the rookie Anything But Blue Balls team 2-2.
Id Hit It Again was scoring again and again in a barn burner by defeating the BA-52s 9-5. It was a good win for Id Hit It Again but giving up 5 runs won't help them in the tiebreaker in the standings. This season we look at winning percentage first, then total wins, then runs against.
It took Smack My Pitch Up and All Banged Up extra innings to settle their game with this defensive showdown ending at 1-0 in favor of the veteran Smack My Pitch Up team. A rematch was held at MacDinton's on the flip cup tables which unfortunately did not go as well as the game did for Smack My Pitch Up as All Banged Up schooled the team in blue. It was an impressive showing from the rookie team.
Quit Yer Pitchin may be thinking they shouldn't have changed colors this past offseason as they were defeated by their old t-shirts. Suck My Kick won 4-2.
Don't Touch Our Balls are back to the winning ways with a 5-0 victory over Saved By The Ball. I am pretty sure Don't Touch Our Balls has ever lost once in a game they didn't forfeit and that was against the Seminoles in the championship game of the playoffs last season.

Welcome to the Spring 2009 Season of WAKA's FL Breaker Division
We are all set to go and we begin play tomorrow night at 7pm. Be sure to check out all of the division information at www.kickball.com/flbreaker. Don't forget that PAL will be serving concessions this season and you can check out their menu online. The food is inexpensive and delicious and the money goes to a good cause.
So who will be the division champion this season? Only time will tell. Last season Dale of the Seminoles brought in a secret weapon and it paid off as the Seminoles won the playoff tournament. Rumor has it that this season Dale has another secret weapon, though don't expect to see this secret weapon at MacDinton's after the games.
